I think that you will find that the start button is the thing you push to get the engine started.
I believe that the cars are delivered with the button out and the car has to be started with the key inserted into the slot. The ashtray is a round plastic tub that fits into one of the drink holders.

Ahhh yes, however did you get the bonus CD player? Loving that.....not! At least we don't have to add the uric acid the yanks do to the diesels.

Re: WK2 DownUnder

The start button pops out and your remote FOB pushes in the hole turn to start.
Great when your key goes flat.
Mine did the other day no warning battery was dead open circuit. 300km from home.
Pull the key out to open the door "alarm sounds" use key to flip the start button out.
Insert Fob "alarm goes off" turn and start.

In the past i got a warning FOB battery low in the EVIC but did not get a warning this time.
Battery only weeks old suspect bad battery.

Re: WK2 DownUnder

I have been getting a "low battery" warning for a few months. I checked the battery and voltage was fine. Contact points also fine.
Maybe a new Jeep software upgrade to force you to buy batteries regularly. Have Fiat purchased a battery manufacturer?

Maybe they mean the fob battery is low. I had a warning on that.

Clearly Jeep is concerned for your health. My ashtray is lying in the back of the garage somewhere. I much prefer to have water bottles in the bottle holders anyway.

Mine was the FOB battery low warning.

The car battery, you get no warning it just don't start the next day.
Lucky mine was still under warranty and got the new battery and bracket to allow standard size batteries to fit.
The original 2011 early AGM were an odd size ($700) special order.

Re: WK2 DownUnder

I WAS referring to the fob battery, not the car battery.

A voltmeter draws bugger all current and may well give a strong reading even if the battery is on its last legs but as soon as an operational current is drawn, the voltage may drop substantially. Go to Battery World. They are only a few bucks.

Re: WK2 DownUnder

Changed mine a couple days ago as the evic watching came up about the fob low battery. Got so low I needed to place it near the steering column to be able to start.
