The dish? What about the extend side? That would muck up the aero!

Re: WK2 DownUnder

I am surprised that the Sat dish and slideout are effecting you, especially since you have the front window open, which must greatly reduce the drag factor. I think it may be more related to leaving the corner stands lowered.
Seriously, I tow a similar weight, and up until the last trip I did, the engine temp stayed steady. On my most recent trip, the engine temp was raised significantly whilst climbing hills. It rapidly dropped to normal on the flats. Perhaps my wife has loaded the van to a level much greater than 3.4T
Like the others have said, I would not be too concerned, but continue to monitor , especially the water level. If there is no loss, then good.

Re: WK2 DownUnder

Can the MY14 be configured to give a digital water temperature rather than the gauge? I can't seem to get that particular number.

Re: WK2 DownUnder

I've seen 113 C Oil temp and over 90 C trans on a particularly hilly section with only a 1.7 tonne load. It was a 35C ambient day though.

The MY14 doesn't display coolant temp only the OIL and Trans oil.
Coolant is generally a few deg C higher than the engine oil.

(Does the MY13 display coolant temp?)

Re: WK2 DownUnder

Steve, engine oil temp is generally in the high 90's to mid 100's under normal operations, whereas water is normally high 80's to low 90's.
That's generally a good guide for most piston engines (not just Jeep).
Under high loadings the coolant can temporarily get hotter than the oil but not as a constant operating condition.

Hi allypally,

I too experienced rapidly rising temps towing approx. 3.4t at Christmas time. On a long hill I actually had the temp warning light come on briefly and of course all returned to normal once the drag was over.
The ambient temp has a big effect and at the time it was around 36C.

I can only draw comfort in the Consumer Protection Laws which state that the product has to be fit for the purpose and JA have it specified as having 3.5T towing capacity. And they say it is normal!

Pete

You're right, sorry I got it backwards.
Mine usually has the coolant a few degrees COOLER than the engine oil.

Re: WK2 DownUnder

Ha Ha, The sat dish automatically deploys to help with braking

Thanks for the reassurance with the engine temp. I will just look at the road and forget all those lights and dials

Cheers Chris
