Re: WK2 DownUnder

Anyone towing a large caravan with around 300kg ball weight and using a WK2 with conventional coil spring suspension? Do the "Nivomat" self levelling shockies work as they should? I am looking at replacing our 2012 Overland with a new or near new Laredo or Ltd - neither of which come with Quadralift on this side of the Tasman.

Cheers Chris

i towed with ball weight of 250kg. they work absolutely perfectly. if the car isn't driven for a few days the back can settle which means the jockey wheel has to be able to get down to it. easily fixed by taking the jgc for a drive of a few kilometres if needed

Hi Chris.
The ball weight on my Lerado is around 325kg. The conventional suspension was not good enough and the bum would sag and despite the self levelling shocks it was a bit spongy. I added airbags and with 30 lbs it was better but as I wanted more height anyway I added RR spacers in the front for around 1.75" lift and Dobinson 300kg springs in the rear for around 2" lift. I kept the airbags and this combination works very well for me.
Hope that this helps.
Pete.

Re: WK2 DownUnder

My insurance saga describe earlier in the thread was resolved yesterday when I took delivery of a white MY15 Overland. Nice upgrade from the Limited, but that bit of wood on the steering wheel is going to take some getting used to. It's a completely different texture to the leather, so it tends to grip on bigger turns. Nice car otherwise though.

Good news! What is it with Americans and fake wood on cars?

Re: WK2 DownUnder

Isn't it real wood. I know all the inserts are, and I thought the steering wheel was too in this case.

Think you are right I scratched mine and looks like wood underneath.
Nail polish hid it LOL

Re: WK2 DownUnder

Yeah, the impression I get from the spec sheets is the Laredo has "wood look" and Limited trims and up get real wood. You really have to squint to see the grain on the wheel though, it's pretty dark. The black interior gets "high gloss" while the other interior colours get "open pore". I can't help but think the open pore might be more suited to being on a steering wheel than high gloss. I do think the wood trim around the cabin looks quite nice.

Pleased for you, that's a good result. Not quite sure what you mean by "tends to grip on bigger turns" but I like the feel and handling.

Re: WK2 DownUnder

If the wheel is passing through my hands, the leather slips through nicely, but the high gloss wooden bit grabs on.

Congrats on the upgrade Fred. Your VR Nav functionality will work now also.
