I really think that you should be digging your toes in and telling them that they have to acknowledge your consumer rights to have a product fit for the purpose and to have a generally accepted life expectancy. The whole job should be on FCA as the labour will be a high percentage of the total.

Re: WK2 DownUnder

Ordinarily I would chase it harder but I just want to be rid of it at the moment.

I still have a complaint lodged with ACCC so I might let that run it's course and see if I can recover the labour in due course.

So, I have a trade-in price for the '14 from the dealership - not bad (I know we can get better going privately though) and so now I'm just waiting on the '16 or '17 release.

I will only consider a '16 75th anniversary or the '17. Am leaning towards the '17.

BobT, ours is most certainly not 'falling apart'. Cannot fault it thus far.
Extended warranty? On behalf of Fiat Chrysler Australia, thankyou so much for donating to our corporate bottom line.

Regarding your trade-in price, be aware that it is based on the recommended retail price of the new car. Go to another dealer and ask them for their best price without a trade-in them. You will get such a discount, it will make your trade-in offer look weak indeed. You will always be much better off selling privately and buying without a trade-in. Remember, dealers do not want your crapped out trade-in. It's PITA for them. The only reason they offer to take it off your hands is to get the sale. Of course trading-in is a great convenience but you may be paying a couple of grand for the privilege.

Re: WK2 DownUnder

Thanks for your thoughts Bob and yes, extended warranty is still something I need to investigate and think about.

I've had an email today from FCA Aust stating that they will be importing the 2016's in the 75th Anniversary variants only - Expected ETA: Mid 2016.

I've been leaning towards the '17 so I think now, that is the model that we will move on. So, that decision being made, I can then expect a 2017 to arrive here about mid next year (2017). WK2Jeeps website has it going into production July this year with sales launch Sept this year (US market) so fairly confident that mid 2017 is when it will land in Aust.

That means that I am a year out of warranty on the MY14. That doesn't sound too bad to me actually. What could possibly go wrong? (Rhetoric question).

We'll make the decision on extended warranty or not closer to June but I will investigate the possibility of course.

What's the nature of the extended warranty? Is it a factory extension or after-market? I was told if I didn't take out the factory extension when I purchased it wouldn't be available later. (Although the fine print showed what I was offered wasn't really a factory warranty in the true sense of the word).

My initial enquires say Factory but I have not looked at any document yet. Am well aware that it may very well be an after-market extension so not worth it but I need to view the docs first to make that judgement.

ETA: Just trying to remember re: the warranty with regards to our '07 Limited. There was a doc that came with the vehicle that stated that factory warranty could be extended but we didn't bother about/read it properly at the time of purchase. We were the second owners of that vehicle even though it was only 6 months old at the time. When warranty ran out in late 2009/early 2010 (I think it was) we rang FCA and discovered that factory warranty was extendable but only to first owners of which we weren't. If I remember correctly, they offered an after market warranty instead, of which we declined.

Things may have changed since then though but we are still first owners of the MY14 so maybe factory extendable is still an option. I dunno - will need to read the doc as I mentioned.

It was offered to me at 3 years, but it was only another 20 or 30k on top of the 100k. I already done 150k. Looked at the document so many if buts and fare ware and tare clause thought that could be an opt out for them. How do you argue fare ware and tare??? think it was $1200, and could purchase extra KM worked out over $2000

WK2 DownUnder

Pretty sure the extended warranty is just a third party insurance policy. Doubt it is "factory".

I think you are just as well protected by Consumer Law, which is free.

A mate of mine son works at Good Guys and gets a bonus when he sells the extended warranty on stuff he sells - it provides no more protection than the normal rights of a consumer. Only ones benefiting is Good Guys, insurance company issuing the "warranty" and the sales people. It's a complete scam.

I've written about FCA agreeing to replace the condenser in my car, they said as "goodwill". Bull. They have agreed because they know consumer law says that a reasonable customer would expect a condenser to last many, many years. Not just 4 years as has been my experience. Nothing to do with warranty.

Rant over.

Re: WK2 DownUnder

Probably right GMWK2 but as I said, will take a closer look in the coming months.

In the meantime, decision made - an MY17 GC Velvet Red to look forward to.

Agreed. In the case of the condenser, they have asked the customer to pay the labour so in reality the customer is paying for the complete replacement as FCA take the faulty condenser back to the manufacturer, Jeep did not make it, and they get a credit/replacement from the manufacturer. Probably Denso or someone like that.
I am involved in warranty every day with the company I work for and that is how these things work.
I am also concerned at the number of condensers failing. Are Jeep buying a cheap second tier product or are they not installing it correctly. No one seems to know, they just keep replacing them.

Pete
