Have now ordered in Deep Cherry Red.

Inferno red is an MY11 colour so is now discontinued for the MY12 model, as far as I know.

Jeep Australia has not advertised or updated their website or brochures for the MY12 model and colour changes, however I learnt about Deep Cherry Red becoming available for MY12 from these forums.

When I wrang the head Jeep Honcho for Jeep in WA and SA, he confirmed that yes it is available for MY12.

Re: WK2 DownUnder

You've got to be fickun kidding me... EDR???? is that even legal?

Page 46 of the manual...

"However, other parties, such
as law enforcement, could combine the EDR
data with the type of personally identifying
data routinely acquired during a crash investigation"

This thing records:
Whether or not the driver and passenger
safety belts were buckled/fastened;
How far (if at all) the driver was depressing
the accelerator and/or brake pedal; and,

How fast the vehicle was traveling.

So, if you are doing 63km in a 60k zone hit and kill some dumbass pedestrian with ipod who walked in front of your giant SUV you are going straight to jail. Do not pass go, do not collect insurance.... your car just provided evidence to lock you up!!

TELL me that sh$t can be turned off???

Re: WK2 DownUnder

Lolz Wardy, I also read this, but it is the same in my Fords as well.
I expect it is a standard clause in all cars in Oz.
The most recent case I remember is HSV doing it in NZ in a serious crash: DETAILS
While it is not nice to be found guilty because of the black box, it also can prove you innocent. I have not heard of any cases locally, but I am sure it is not a routine exercise for the Police and would need to have a good reason to go through this process. I am sure int he future a cop will just plug into the ODB2 port and suck your ECU of the EDR data as part of their investigations.

P.S just found this in NSW: In New South Wales, Australia, a teen-aged woman (a probationary driver) was convicted of dangerous driving "causing death/occasioning grievous bodily harm" in 2005. Evidence from the Peugeot's EDR showed that the car was being driven in excess of the posted speed limit. An injunction against the use of EDR evidence, obtained by the owner of the car (the parents of the defendant), was overturned in the NSW Supreme Court.

Re: WK2 DownUnder

Thanks Enforcer, i am now overjoyed that my brand new jeep will be a star witness in any case against me!!

Fortunately for me I strictly obey all posted signs... but this really does make you think... one lapse in judgement and you're done for.

Re: WK2 DownUnder

Personally I don't think that having an EDR in the vehicle is of any concern at all. In fact I think that they are a good idea.

In a serious accident it may well prove that you were not responsible or that there was possibly a fault with the car.

If you were involved in an accident that was serious enough to warrant review of the EDR data, then surely ones first inclination is to tell the truth to all concerned parties rather than trying to hide facts.

If you made a mistake, take the consequences and move on. If you were driving like a maniac and come unstuck, then you deserve whats coming to you for endangering others.

My personal opinion only and this is meant in no way having a crack at wardy, just another way of looking at things.

Re: WK2 DownUnder

After an unfortunate event of a plane going down, after the search for survivors, the first thing on everybody's mind is how to retrieve the Aussie invented black box. If still in tact it's the only thing that may hold any clue to the disaster.

These EDR's are just another great technological leap forward into the 21st century. Imagine how they could have been used over the past 50 years or so. They're a great ally for anyone on this side of the law and evidence for the prosecution for anyone who crosses the line (as demonstrated by the article linked to Enforcer's post).

Re: WK2 DownUnder

I am just surprised that they do not use it for every fatality or serious crash. I am sure that someone could get an device that would just plug in and tell them in clear words what the car was doing 0-20sec before the crash. Going through the process of having experts having to interpret the data is crazy. This would be why they are not as simple as plug and play. Would make crash investigation a lot easier than having to guess or make assumptions as to car speed and driver behavior before the incident.

It appears that Jeep have deemed Australia a servere service environment. I would have thought that with such a large oil capacity that this would push out the service inteval.

Maybe it has something to do with the crap quality diesel that we have here in Australia? Then again I thought that Mercedes and BMW diesels were 20k service intervals. Maybe I was wrong.
Both my WH GC diesels were on 20,000km service intervals, although, I still performed a basic oil and filter change myself between the scheduled services.(10000km) They have both had Mobil 1 5w 30 low ash fully synthetic oils, which I purchase in 20lt containers ($320 / 20lt) and supply to the dealer. This is the recommended oil used by Mercedes Benz for their version this engine used in their fleet.

The new WK2 has 12000km service intervals in NZ, and the local dealership is happy to allow me to continue supplying my own oil as the specification is identical.

Cheers Chris

Re: WK2 DownUnder

Forgot to mention several of our cars are in Brisbane tomorrow. 5 Days and it is in Pt Kembla.
Do you think it would be crazy for me to drive down and look at the ship when it docks ?
