My understanding is that the "tow haul" feature is only on the petrol versions that run a different transmission to the diesels. It alters the shift protocol and in the WH series with the 5.7 Hemi it locked out fifth gear. Even with my diesel WH models,(I have owned two) I manually selected 4th gear when towing our large 2500KG caravan. The new WK2 diesel has a lot more low down torque and tows the van happily in drive, and consequently spends most of the time in fifth.
The Tow button was only on the Hemi 2011 and would use the other 2nd gear. They changed the software on all the Hemi's late last year to enable the gear permanently meaning they are now a 6sp. This renders the Tow button redundant on the 2011 models. The v6, CRD and SRT8 all use the same gearbox, the hemi is different.
Thats awesome. I'm going for a turbo remap map as soon as mine arrives and see how that goes. Might then look at reducing back pressure on the exhaust system.
The SRT8 has a different transfer case/center diff and I believe this is the weak point.
The trusty Merc 5sp seems like an indestructible box, but the transfer case/centre diff is not. There are a few people running the racechip box and they reported it was a good product that gave a noticeable bumometer increase in performance. From what I can see they are just a piggyback box that intercepts the signals so the ECU does not know the motor is working harder. Spending $250 on it is a good deal, but not $1500. I will keep mine stock.
Yes. If Jeep got wind of it, you could void warranty. However, they would need to prove that the changes you made effected the broken part.
The setup of that particular device is that it sits between the computer and the engine. Therefore, technically you are not changing the program in the computer, so theoretically, it should not be detected.
However, there is no way of knowing whether Jeep have hidden some sort of detection in their software to look for such devices. Unlikely, but possible.
Off the subject...sorry Guys. Anybody got Jeep finance and if so, what rate. My dealer wont advise me for some reason, but I'm still intrigued before I make other arrangements.
My dealer used St George. I got a CHP @7.99%, but I have several vehicles with them.
You cannot compare rates though, as it is very deceptive. Monthly payments and final balloon is what you should be using to compare different finance companies. You also need to work out the type of finance. CHP, Lease or Personal loan, each will be different in repayments and tax advantages.
Jeep don't do finance. It will be the finance company the dealer has a relationship with. You will generally do better elsewhere. Rates should be in the high 7's. But don't be fooled by the rate. They can build commissions and other expenses into the repayments. Just compare repayments with like for like terms
You might try looking at a Novated Lease, if your company allows that. It has some decent tax advantages, and you should be able to negotiate a Fleet discount.
I did that and saved close to $10k
My accountant mentioned a Chattel Mortgage might suit as I can depreciate the car with it being my own asset rather than the finance company's. Either way, my dealer is not interested, so I am not interested in taking my son back there tomorrow. He can spend the $35k he's got at another dealership.
I arranged business lease finance as my work doesn't do novated lease etc. They offer a tool of trade vehicle or vehicle allowance. Anyway, I took the allowance this time and 'Bought a Jeep'!
My dealer finances with St George and I managed to negotiate 7.5% through the dealer. Remember here that the dealer makes money on the finance package, possibly more than for selling the car.
Anyway, something I didn't realise until I picked the car up was that the finance is only for the purchase price less GST. Or in other words, I financed for around $5k less than the purchase price because St George claim the GST back.
The shame is had I known this earlier I would have optioned up a bit more as my budget was for the higher price.
My dealer came back with finance details today. They have advised the GST component needs to be financed as part of the loan Might give my accountant a call to discuss. (Rate quoted is 8.9%)
Well mine done it today QL will not go to OR1.
And takes a long time to change from Aero height to normal height.
1100km trip tomorrow hope it makes it.
Dealer is 600km away in the opposite direction.
Called them, Wanneroo Jeep the service Dpt does not have the nitrogen gear.
And said they would take it down the road to some workshop and refill it.
Not that confident they know what they are doing.
DH, make sure you have documented evidence that Jeep are sending you down the road to the guy with the nitrogen gear, you don't want a warranty debate down the track!
Not sure, dont know if it has leaked definatly not a ruptured line would have lost all the gas by now.
Done 1575km today 420km on gravel.
Seemed to go in and out of aero mode ok.
Cant even select OR1 or OR2 nothing no flashing lights now.
Have to look-up the TSB's think there is one for the compressor.
Sampy 44psi on the HYW
If it is ruff rocky roads 38psi stop the tyres cutting up.
Today the gravel was like glass nor corrugations just slippery driving on marbles.
Was reading my Service and Warranty Handbook today, as we all do, and lo and behold on the front cover is a yellow sticker stating that the handbook does not apply to customers in Australia.
Stange seeing that the book has in fact been "Australianised" as references to Melbourne HQ and Jeep Assist Aust are mentioned.
Another glitch in the leaky armour of Chrysler Aust.
Ours will go to OR11 in high range as well.......it does a bit of adjusting by itself though - at times when you get in and start the nose will dip and it adjusts up in height slightly - without showing any messages. Like it has dropped a bit while parked. Not every time and certainly not enough to notice when you walk up to it.
Would this not be the result of the re-adjusting the vehicle does when parked.
Is it all models or just the Overland that has the self levelling in Park mode? ie. so that the car always looks even and good - from what I understand it does some self levelling shortly after being placed in park mode and switched off.
Mine will go into OR2 when in park, The low range is only needed when using the Hill Decent Control. I think it will not go in to OR2 if the speed is above 30km/h, as ours will auto lower above this speed.
Sorry guys, I should have checked before I shot my mouth off. Rock mode goes to QR2 and it is rock mode that it won't go into without being in low range, not just normal QR2.
