New TSB. Any CRD owners needed this one? I wonder if it had a postive effect on all CRD turbo's?

STRANGE NOISE!!! I have an intermittent noise that can best be described as
a mix between a creak/letting air out of a balloon slowly/sort of noise when you turn off a high pressure tap. It lasts for about 1 to 2 seconds. I think, but can't be totally sure, it coincides with going into sport (lowered suspension) then back to normal ride height (auto). I parked up today with the engine running after a spirited drive and it made the noise every minute or so. It's coming from the front and you can feel it through the steering whhel. Drove home tonight in auto (normal height) without any dramas. It has done this since new (3 weeks) but am only getting a little concerned with it now. Is this normal? The air suspension works perfectly fine, going in and out of "aero" height automatically as it should etc etc...

#2,405 ·
Yep, you could be right. The suspension does sag around 1/2" overnight then picks up when I start the engine. I wasn't sure it this was normal, or part of the self levelling. Its in sometime next week for its inital month check/service so I'll post back the outcome.

If it was a leak, the compressor would overheat and you would not be able to maintain the normal height. These are closed systems and do not have much of a reserve, so any leak will show itself very quickly and it will be quite obvious,
I would say it is just the self levelling. Our car is parked on an angular incline and I notice once it is on the level it will adjust. These cars make all sorts of noises that are normal as there are many things happening all the time on them.
The smoke bit is a worry, but I would just monitor the ride height, maybe go from park to OR2, if it can do that there is no problem.

#2,407 ·
Park to OR2 absolutely no problem. Just that strange "lurching" type noise usually after a period on "aero". The smoke issue only occured the once, and I put that down to not fully releasing the park brake. I'll bring both items up next week but anticipate a "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" answer.

Does anyone know the Aust spec changes for MY2013 as yet? The US version seems have virtually no changes for the Overland buyer but that doesn't mean our version will be as light on. My dealer is indicating a RRP change so I would like to think something else (positive) will change too...

#2,411 ·
The changes will be the same for the USA versions, so not much. You will most likely find out once you get the cars as they are not good at telling people about changes, except for pricing.

They didn't post details of the 2012 model till about March 2012 as I recall. So good luck. I sounds like Chrysler Australia ask for things then it's pot luck as to what actually arrives.

So yesterday I went in to my dealer and got my new/replacement tow hook fitted..... While in there the dealer also told me that he had ordered a replacement satnav cable for me that would be fitted free of charge once the part arrived. According to the dealer this was because some owners had been having trouble with their satnav's. My satnav is Ok but apparently other owners have been having "trouble" with their.... no exact details of what "trouble" actually means. Campaign/Recall number 12-042 and ordered Part Number is K68194555AA. Anyone having "trouble" with their satnav?

Any one in Perth, Western Australia want to take a run up to Lancelin one Saturday to try out their new GC in the dunes.

I'm looking to go asap and don't want to embarrass any of my mates with their Toyota's..

I tried out my GC on Stockton Beach the other day. Not quite WA, more like Newcastle NSW. It went great on the soft dry stuff and on the hard packed wet sand but in between was terrible. Recent storms had pushed up berms of soft wet sand and that was nasty. Got bogged twice but the maxtrax got me out no sweat. I was experimenting with tire pressure. I went down to 150kpa but should have gone further. I have since bought a proper tyre deflator to replace the stick I used. Also I used the sand/mud setting which sets the height to OR1. Next time I'll go to OR2. It is interesting that once the Jeep's little brain realises you are stuck, the traction and stability control shuts off so as to allow the wheels to spin. Wish is accordance with the manual but not always such a good idea in sand. Nevertheless it was useful when using the maxtrax. Will have another go in a few days. BTW, having the air-dam on was not issue whatever.

Any of the Brisbane forum members towing the "Queen Mary" on Saturday though Manly? Cherry Red JGC towing what looked like a 25/30ft yacht that DWARFED the Jeep!! Looked great!

I am now seeing a JGC on a daily basis. We get asked all the time about ours, but many are turned off by it not being a 7 seater. That being said many cars the size of a JGC do not have a usable 3rd row unless they are dwarfs or under 6.

Looking forward to the pictures after dark. Did you get the Mopar one with various colour LED's or just the colour that matches the cupholders etc?

Sure looks like a tug boat. What you see is the forecastle of the Signa that ran aground in a storm in 1974. It is all that is left now. It broke in two. The stern was towed away to a scrap yard but they couldn't get the bow off the bar. The Signa was a 53,000t Norwegian bulk carrier. I called that photo "A couple of Eastern Beach Crocs (Crocodylus maxtraxus)". The maxtrax people liked the photo and posted it on the maxtrax facebook site. The second photo is off Wikipedia.

Looking at wasting some money on my Jeep.. soo..

What lifts are people running? I know CRDSTU has a kit for them. Has anyone tried purchasing one from rocky-road in the US? Looking at a 2" lift or so.. What usually comes in the lift kits?

What about rock rails/sliders? The mopar ones seem quite expensive.. once again, anyone tried ordering them from the US? shipping would be a bit pricey I assume. What sort of price range are people paying for them? I am wondering if its easier to just get my mate to build me some, he said it would be around $1300 for his custom ones.

.
I bought the Rocky Road WH lift kit in 2005 from Rocky Road, had no problems with it, got the local dealer to fit it, the installation of the blocks on the front was a bit to technical for me, did 200 000km with the kit installed. I liked the fact that I still had the same spring rates just more clearance.

Looked at buying the roof racks from them recently but the cost of shipping has gone through the roof, so I knocked up my own set.

Hi to all on this site.
I am in Brisbane and have a new JGC Overland and have a question about the front recovery hook. I know it has been done to death but can you fit a recovery hook to an 03/12 build Overland.
I have been advised that you cannot fit to this model but surely it is a must for up the beach at Inskip or Moreton.

Regards
Strategy

#2,429 ·
Strategy: The MY12 GC had the Recovery hook removed, and you cannot retrofit the one sold on Mopar's online shop.
However, Jeep Aust had a bracket and hook engineered, which was released last month. It is however, expensive at over $300. The retrofit one fits to the passenger side only.
There is talk of a nudgebar, but I don't think anyone has yet seen it.

They're everywhere now, not as common as a Holden / Ford / Toyota or X5 but the numbers are up. I only hope CJD Aust keep up with service demand.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the 3rd row, too close to the back of the car. The 3rd row is only a seating solution for kids but if you're ever "rear ended" they are first in line on impact - no thanks.

When we had the Prado, the kids always wanted to jump in the 3rd row, even with a fortified rear door and spare wheel in the way, we were always a little nervous when we did relent and let them and their friends use the seats.

If anyone is that desperate for a 3rd row they should consider a Tarago!
