Much noisier? I reckon my Kuhmo's have got noisier over tiime and they are as slipply as a butchers %^&* in the wet. What's the Coopers like cornering in the wet? (Best 20" HT's I ever had were Toyo Open Country's on my Pajero NS. Great tire in the dry, and were absolute life savers in the wet, absolute as grippy as but no good for anything OR other than sand.)......fancy starting a "tyre" thread for Aussie WK2 owners? Many of us must be coming up to a tyre change within the next several months and I for one would appreciate good advice from fellow owners with good purchasing experience on AT's. (preferably 20" 'ers)

Hmm, A bit noisier than the Kuhmo,s but not as noisy as the all terain TA's I had on my Prado previously.... I think any tyre with a more aggressive tread's gonna have a bit more road noise. We just got back from a 5000km trip out to Broken Hill, South Aust, down to Phillip Island then back up to Coffs, we had all sorts of weather, did several hundred k's of dirt roads, the tyres were great, good in the corners if you want to push it a bit, great in the wet.... way better than the worn Kuhmo's, had a couple of heart in my mouth episodes with those aqua planning etc in the wet.... There a few photo's of my Jeep with the Coopers on in jefferson.oz album if your interested in how they look... hope this helps.....

Can anybody take a quick squiz at their AC compressor and confirm numbers on the bar code label.

"Partae" this arvo...a few drinks with the girls and boys. 10 guys stood around my Jeep admiring it passing comments how awesome the "presence is on the road"..."incredible value"...."why would you buy an ML"....took a car load around the block to demonstrate the incredible torque of the CRD before the second beer......makes you kinda proud to own such a machine....and right on cue, no noise from the AC that cemented the illusion.

NEED HELP . Guys with a genuine MOPAR 3.5T towbar (CRD owners?), can you please give me the part number for the removable Mopar tow hitch. Mine got removed when it was damaged and I urgently need the part number. I can see the part number on the bar itself, but need the number off the label on the tongue. Cheers for any help.

Afternoon All

Well having been a Ford man for the last 25 odd years (currently have a 2010 Territory AWD) the purchase of a new larger/heavier caravan has seen the need for a more powerful tow tug. We had looked at the Ford Ranger/MazdaBT50 and an Isuzu DMax but no matter how much you try and option it up............in the end you still really have a Ute, which wasn't ideal for us as an every day car!! So we placed an order for a new MY13 CRD Laredo in Bright Silver on 20NOV (not a bad birthday present :)) and currently delivery is due late FEB13....cannot come soon enough!! Cheers

Welcome, Micky, congrats on your purchase, and Happy Birthday. Mine was Nov 24 and I bought myself a 260hp supercharged death machine on the water; your present was probably more sensible.

Put a padlock on your wallet now though. I read too much here and spent a fortune on my Jeep in the months I waited to get it.

Hi Micky ... Congratulations and welcome aboard.

The best way to describe the GC is how Jeremy Clarkson once described a Maserati. To paraphrase, it's like a naughty two year old child. A few little things will annoy the crap out of you, but you will love it to death anyway.

Suggest you become a member of the forum, then you can track your vehicle through to delivery. Then you wont have to put up with lies from te dealer.

Oh, and welcome!

Ugh, crawling back into bed after a callout at 2:50 AM. The money's good here but I hate not being able to turn down callouts. 5 days and I go home.

Hope everyone else is sleeping soundly.

Hi guys, great Aussie thread that you have going here.

About to upgrade the ol' 96 Jeep Cherokee Ltd to a '14 GC. Just after a few tips on ordering if anyone can help out?

Did you order options at the time of the order, or did you buy them aftermarket and get your Jeep dealer to install? I'm thinking of sidesteps, rubber boot protector, door entry guards, skid plates.

Anything you wouldn't order or do in hindsight?

A Limited or Overland(is ours what they call a Summit?) because I'm torn? I would love the ventilated seats as I get hot easily but not sure that I need any other options(then again I will want it all LOL). Looking to do only light FWD ie dirt trails or sand.

I'm in Sydney, are there dealers you would avoid or recommend? If you don't feel comfortable saying in the open with regards to the dealers, a PM would be appreciated.

Tips to get a good deal(just don't want to get ripped off).

To be honest, any information that you share will be really appreciated!

I'm getting so excited, no idea how I am going to wait for this beast but I'm looking forward to joining the JGC fraternity :D

I'll speak from personal experience, I really stretched both the finances and my relationship with my wife to get into an Overland CRD. It's fully loaded as you would expect with two specific extras that I wonder how I ever managed without. One is the ACW (advanced collision warning) that works off the same radar on the front that does your active cruise control (where the car brakes automatically down to around 25k to maintain the distance between you and the car in front) .The ACW has proved to be a life saver, not that I am a careless driver but it has assisted three times with the unpredicabilty of other drivers during a moments distraction and had me on the brakes before driving over the car in front. Second is the ventilated seats.....awesome in the Qld climate, and I mean awesome....did I say awesome???
As for the sunroof....nice to have a few months of the year but not essential. Quad lift....a bit wasted on me as I will be living the life of a single bloke if I took my.....sorry our $75k vehicle in anything rougher than the beach or easy dirt roads. Power liftgate.....handy but not essential. Sat Nav....a lot of people find this useless. Mines fine for as long as the maps are current, but I know I am in for a shock once they need an update. (You can buy a lot of Garmins for the price of a map upgrade). Blind spot warning....OK but not essential........
So, taking the above into account knowing you can get into a Limited thats almost as loaded for a good 10k less or even a cheaper Laredo that has better offroad tyre options and you can add Nappa looking leather seats for a grand, on hindsight I would have gone for the cheaper models and put the balance towards upgrading my boat, thrown some top quality sheepskins on the front and still been happy.
PS...got carried away.........stretch yourself for the CRD.

Thanks GlennR,

I guess they are awesome then LOL. Drat, that was not what I was hoping you would say, could be a 10k purchase based on the seats alone! The ACW sounds worth it too.

I'm also torn between the CRD and the V8, I will have to wait for the fuel numbers to make a decision on that one but Im leaning toward the CRD. The new 8 speed should make a bit of a difference to the fuel figures but ultimately my decision will be based on $$$'s

Thanks GlennR,

The fuel figures are out and widely published on this forum. You need to be pulling a good few tonne or driving with the brakes on into a 100km headwind to get the CRD above 10L/100. The V8's a totally different story but still credible compared to 3.8L petrol Pajero's and similar that are up and over the 14L/100 average. Not sure if things have changed but 6 months ago the CRD and V8 was the same price. CRD's require more frequent services, not that they need them, its just that us CRD owners are gripped by the goolies in Australia forced into 10k services whilst the rest of the civilized planet enjoys 20k intervals. Without harping on, do a search on the ownership costs on each engine. Someone really did their homework and there's good information to be found on this forum that will help with the decision making.....get a CRD!!!

Great question! I'm in the market also. I want the pano sun roof so it pushes me to a limited straight away. I would also love the leather that is in the overland instead of the limited etc.

I may be wrong but if you want to save a little don't option the order with the parts you can get after market or retro fitted. If you do add boot liners etc your luxury car tax will be paid on those items also I believe...

I have the current fuel figures next to me, I just about fell off the chair when I saw that the V8 was 20L/100km urban. I was meaning that I wanted to see if the 8 speed would bring that down to near 15L/100km. I might be dreaming with that and the CRD would be the winner if the V8 can't get near the 15L/100km urban.

I saw Bob's(?) Mopar side steps get trashed and he moved to the rock rails. Has anyone got an opinion on the tubular side steps? Do they reduce the ground clearance considerably?

Ahhh, didn't think of that  Great thinking Marksy. I agree regarding the leather of the Overland, I wish I could get the Overland seats as an option in the Ltd. I want the ventialted seats :D

I love my Overland CRD ACC, ventilated seats, quadra lift all worth the extra indulgence.

Few things to watch for when ordering. Get the rock rails, make sure you specify all 3 skid plates. I ordered skid plates, they installed 1 skid plate.. didnt get that it was plural....trying to sort that at the moment. Get the mopar tow bar as you will retain the rear recovery point, make sure they include the front recovery point on your order. then shop your specification around to 2 or 3 dealers. I am in Sydney. Shopped mine around Suttons Rosebery, Peter Warren Warwick Farm and Nepean at Penrith. Got a great deal in the end from Nepean, but failed to confirm the details on the skid plates, so it really wasn't quite as good as I first thought.

Still happy :D
