Yes, I certainly agree with that.

I suspect that the un-official strategy for Chrysler Jeep Australia is to keep their dealers guessing as much as possible, so they don't miss out on orders by quoting realist or actual delivery dates to their customers and therefore avoiding the potential client walking down the road to buy another make.

When we ordered ours, we new that it would be a long wait, however the JGC overlands were just too damn nice. The other options at that time were a Q7 or a ML350, however after specing these vehicles up to match the features of the Overland, would have seen us out of pocket an additional 20k.

Plus the ML's are just about thicker than ants here in Perth so the Jeep offers something a little different.

Re: WK2 DownUnder

But the dealers have access to insight. And when they place a sold order insight allocates a E number.
I got this from the state rep while he was at my dealer.
Another theory, dealers are allocated a set number of jeeps each month.
Beginning of each month the dealer orders his hole month allocation all unsold.
Then hopes these will fill the orders of the customer who then walk in.

Re: WK2 DownUnder

Swampy
In July, the dealership here in Brisbane where I test drove all 3 engines and I wanted to order an Overland through quoted a Nov-Jan delivery period.

When they knew I was not in a waiting mood they tried the Limited route. Whist it's a great great model its not what I wanted.

Their next tact was to push for an order / deposit etc for an Overland (I suspect to fill an internal quota) and once they accrued say 10 units they submit a bulk order. This still had no guarantee on delivery.

It seems to me there are small, medium and large dealerships and they are all allocated stock based on local population and size of dealership.

Once I joined the dots, I could see Brisbane's allocation was much smaller than Sydney's so I got on the phone to Suttons Rosebery (I'm an ex Sydnyite) asked for a Charcoal Overland CRD, the dealer said no can do but said he has an Inferno Overland CRD on the floor in Detroit just about to board a vessel, I made a quick decision and snapped it up. All this within a 5 minute conversation. The Inferno has since grown on me. I now have a sparkling Inferno in Sydney, paid for with my carrier collecting tomorrow.

Whether true or not, Suttons boast to having 40% of either NSW's or Australia's allocation (not sure which). Where the % is that high, there's a greater chance of success. My dealer also said my deal contributed to them having their best ever month in August and pushed +/- 23 JGC out the door.

Don't get me wrong, this is not a boast, but approx 40 days from order to delivery is very strange in this Overland market. I had to think outside the square to make things happen.

Your choices in Perth may not be as great in Sydney but if you want something sooner you may need to look to another area market or another dealership if you can (that's if you can get your deposit back or if another dealer do a deal incorporating it) and maybe consider another colour if that's available.

Not sure what car carriers charge between Sydney and Perth, or Melbourne and Perth but it may be something to factor in to your equation.

Re: WK2 DownUnder

If anyone is after a Mineral Grey Overland HEMI, my dealer has a November one available.
I do not know if I will get my ride tomorrow as they have been kind enough to throw on a towbar. As it was late notice they may not be able to fit it in time. I did tell them it is a 2.5hr job and they should try hard to have it completed so I can collect it on Saturday. They also told me it had been delivered undamaged, which is good news.
So all going to plan it will be Saturday as I have too much work tomorrow to collect it, or worst case, Monday.
BRING IT ON !!!!

I take it the towbar is "post" contract so there is unnecessary LCT?

I've read some posts re towbars previously, any particular reason in running with a Jeep as opposed to a HR?

Mate, you'd have to push for Saturday, gives you a couple of days to play before work!

BTW, who's your dealer?

Re: WK2 DownUnder

The towbar is "free" as they made a mistake with dealer delivery and have thrown it in under the contract, so no LCT. Dealer is SVM Mosman. I am yet to meet my new sales guy James, but he comes across nice on the phone and seems to be helpful. I am pushing for Saturday as I hope they will have the tow bar in stock and able to fit it. I will be giving them all the Rego info they asked for and give them the hurry on.

Brilliant score! Would be nice for more dealers to make similar mistakes....Hope you do get it for Saturday, if you don't at least you'll have a great free addition as a consolation for an extra day or 2.

Re: WK2 DownUnder

Enforcer, early on there were rumors Jeep were going to give us a gift for our wait.
Has this been mentioned to you? as I think yours is the first of the long waits.
