The one I tested did it and so does mine. I think it is more to do with the turbo, once it kicks in all is quite. I do not know if it has an electronic bypass on the wastegate, but it is noticeable as the car is so dam quite.
I think that's the problem, it's very quiet, almost too quiet. It's a strange sound that still doesn't really bug me (but mildly annoys me). Driving with windows up, radio off still sounds like an old manifold exhaust leak or one of those very old VW Combi's in the distant background.

Then, with door open, in park, rev the engine it sounds like a normal diesel with no sound of escaping air. Also again with door open, foot on brake, in drive, rev engine again it sounds normal.

It's only ever sounds like a manifold exhaust leak from within the cab with windows up. I'm beginning to think it's just a muffled tinny variation to the "diesel" sound. Could also just be my imagination and I may just get used to it. I'll bring it up with the techo's at the first service.

No more Sleeps , pick up today (Mineral Grey Laredo CRD) I was told it would land in Brisbane around the 9th October but they rang Monday and it arrived last weekend. Sad to see the 120Prado go but excited about the GC and hopefully it will be as reliable as the Prado.

Well done Baxter. Someone must have given you an initial wrong vessel eta, vessel's are usually only a day or 2 out of schedule. May be also wise to double check your contracted VIN against the actual vehicle. I once made a mistake and bought a new Patrol and the dealer tried pulling a swifty with VIN's, he tried to substitute VINS with a previous year VIN.....very sneaky!

I too gave up a 120 series Prado and was sad to see our faithful friend go. You'll notice an immediate difference in cabin space and door head clearance but once you get used to the change you will be a very happy.

I'll keep an eye out for you, I'm usually on the southside. Jaysonf is also on the southside.

Thumbs up Re: WK2 DownUnder

There's quite a few of us out there that seem to be getting out of prados into jeeps, and we all hope for toyota reliability.... time will tell, as for personality, the jeep rocks compared to a prado right away!

Re: WK2 DownUnder

I checked the Vin and E numbers against the ones they gave me back on the 5/08/11 and they all match, so I guess they looked up the wrong ship.

Nice choice...you will not be dissappointed with the colour. I have had this for a month now (3450kms), and still cant wait to drive it at every opportunity.

Re: WK2 DownUnder

Fitted a 100 amp hour deep cycle AGM battery under the front passenger seat today. Not wired yet will do that over the weekend. Fitting was easy. I will take photos over the weekend and go through the process for all to see. I also will be fitting a redarc remote electic brake controller as it only needs a couple of small holes drilled to fit a dial and led light. The unit can be mounted away under the dash or in the consul. I will also report back on that mod when I do it. I only got my new WK2 on thursday from Central Coast Jeep Gosford and very happy with it. I will post the photos and how to to on the other Jeep posts as well. Catch you later.
