Crowdy Head today. Got lucky with the tides and didn't bother to air down on the hard sand.

Becoming one of our favorite places.

And Crowdy Head is not crowdy at all. We were the only ones on the beach at 4pm. Sand Beach Sea Sky Natural environment

Great pic! You've taken me back to my childhood when we regularly camped at Harrington which I suspect is at the other end of that beach your Jeep is on. You're brave not airing down.

Reminds me of the quiet days on Stockton. Edit:I guess it added this pic upside down due to our location on the planet...

Fog lights replaced with air intakes, to allow the big girl to breath.

I read the hellcat could deplete the air in a 3x3x3 mt room in a minuet

#4,716 · (Edited)
That's assuming they are genuine intakes that do something. I believe they are genuine but I remember some Holdens having "side vents". There was no actual hole just stuck on bits of cosmetic plastic but that didn't stop the fan boys raving about them.

Bit surprised about the badge, looks just like the Blackhawk. You would think they would like a bigger difference.

Apart from that it does have the supercharged
badge on the doors under the the name which I like in Chrome/Black

but agree it's too similar to the blackhawk and from a distance could easily be seen as one, apart from the duel tipped exhausts.

Agree about the same looks as any other lesser model - think Jeep might be using the Porsche design studio at the moment.

Very impressive but how would it go on Stockton Beach? :p

I have the correct part number and it comes up as an export mirror on the US Mopar parts site. I'm sure I had the right part but for some reason they would not supply it to me. Betcha FCA prevent ordering the part direct so they can apply the Australia Tax and make us pay through the nose at an Australian dealer.

When all of this started I lodged a complaint with Dept Fair Trading in anticipation that it would all go pear shaped, as usual. My case is now at the top of the pile and Dept has been in discussion with FCA about price gouging in respect of the mirror cost and their general lack of customer service to assist in sourcing the part. Appropriate restitution is being discussed by the parties....

Try the site I listed. I've bought heaps of stuff from them including rock rails and a front right steering knuckle. I've even bought Mopar slush mats for RHD vehicles from them. It's funny that they call them "export" slush mats where in fact many of their export vehicles would be LHD.

Just a quick, financially unmotivated, photoless plug for the Provent 200. While up at Murchison House Station I decided to empty it, having done a few months of Perth metro driving, several local boat ramp trips, some 4WDriving, plus mercilessly dragging our caravan to where I was standing. Actual kays... bugger all really, maybe 5000km tops. Emptying the can required an amount of contortionism due to the location and engine bay density, however I was rewarded with at least 15mm of oil in the bottom of the beer can I used as a receptacle. Couldn't get a decent photo...

Cheers,
Steve

MY 2017 Grand Cherokees are finally starting to show up on the dealers lots. Castle Hill had a white Trailhawk with safety pack they just sold for $88k that was on the lot for only 4 days. Parramatta has one in the same spec for the same price but I was talking to another dealer who is waiting for theirs in the same spec to arrive this week and tol me they would put it on for around $80k.

I'm looking at new Overland from the same dealer but that is around July/August for delivery. All the other dealers I spoke to are clueless - they have no idea of what cars they've ordered or what options they've specified.

#4,728 ·
I guess like most people, you want the car now if not sooner. However, if you are willing to wait 6 to 12 months, you can specify exactly what you want in terms of factory options. After all, if you are going to fork out 80 grand, you don't want to have to take just what happens be on the dealer's floor. The dealer places an order with the factory. Within a few weeks they start building the car with your name on it. It's completed within two weeks, then the long long wait for shipping to Oz then another month perhaps for detailing. That's what I did. If you are not in a hurry, it's a lot of fun tracking the progress. I don't know if there is an element of "hand built" to this process but my MY12 has been faultless.

#4,729 ·
Did all that with my MY12 Overland. While I agree with you to some extent, the one I'm looking at is exactly what I would have ordered: Granite Crystal with towbar. Not really interested in illuminated sills etc and all the other window dressing if I have to pay for them. As I am now out of warranty (my extended factory warranty ended in March) I am thinking now is the time to change as waiting another 12 months means:

  • no warranty coverage for 12 months
  • 2 x services at uncapped prices
  • Rego
  • 4 x new tyres
  • further drop in the already shitty resale

You make some good points. It's horses for courses. Extended warranty is not an issue for me. I can handle any major unexpected expense. Also, resale value is not an issue because I intend to keep it while ever maintenance costs are still reasonable. By then it will be amortised to zero so anything I get for it is a bonus. Driving around in a, by then, shit box is not too much of an issue either :)

I can handle the expenses if something comes up, but I don't want to necessarily. If I'm honest, do I need a new jeep? Probably not. Do I want I new jeep? Absolutely. There's lots of alternatives if saving money was the deciding factor. Like a "new" 2y.o. Jeep.

If I don't swap to a 2017 I'll probably drive it into the ground. I'm leaning towards updating but the rational side of me says save $50k and hang onto my current jeep.

Interesting? Either he wrecked his MY14 or he took it off somebody else's.:)

#4,736 ·
Has anyone that has an MY14 (2013 build) that originally came with DAB (not DAB+) but has never used it because it didn't work, tested it lately?

Ours is now picking up stations (and only tested in Camden thus far - not tested in Sydney environs yet).

For those that are interested, while tracking my new Grand Cherokee which is currently on the MV Figaro, I managed to bring up the bill of lading showing the VINs of every Jeep on board. Without clicking on every VIN, I can't tell how many are being offloaded in Auckland, or in any individual Australian port, but from the VIN numbers, I can see the following breakdown for the 106 Grand Cherokees on board:

Laredo 4x2 3.6 Petrol (19)
Laredo 4x4 3.6 Petrol (13)
Laredo 4x4 3.0 CRD (37)
Limited 4x4 3.6 Petrol (4)
Limited 4x4 3.0 CRD (3)
Overland 4x4 3.0 CRD (12)
SRT 4X4 6.4Lt Hemi (10)
Trailhawk 4X4 3.0 CRD (8)

Interestingly, there are no 5.7 SRT on board, just the 6.4 version.

Nice information.

And the dealers still tell you they have no idea what and when it is coming. Rubbish.

Nope . The launch allocation was one Trailhawk and maybe one or two petrol Laredos. This is the third shipment, (the second arrived late June). The dealers are still trying to offload the MY2015s, which are all Petrol Laredos, Limited's and the odd 75th Anniversary model. That's why 60 of the 106 cars on the ship are diesel with another 10 of the 6.4 SRTs (there must be a couple of 5.7s left over as well).

What I'm surprised about is the 19 4x2 Laredos. I wouldn't think that would sell, but hey, someone does.

I guess given the brand damage done the strategy is to under order until demand lifts and the MY15s are all sold off. Dealers won't want to get stuck holding stock if sales are soft.

Selous, you're going to need to settle……..
Once your new toy arrives on land and disappears into Prixcars black hole you won't have any fingernails left.
(ask me how I know….)
Step away from that keyboard!!!

Hey John

Thanks for reminding me. I'd like to think that the new car will be out of Port Kembla within a few days as opposed to the three weeks last time because the entire shipment was quarantined due to grass seeds.

I might be lucky.

Cheers

You WERE lucky......back in 2012 our first Laredo CRD vanished into Prixcars Brisbane for nearly 5 weeks!
Reason - grass seeds!
I tormented the daylights out of the dealer but they refused to even acknowledge the vehicle had even landed. Actually I don't think they had a clue.

Must be a standard get out excuse. The other one I have seen is underbody dirt from snow slush.
I did check ours very closely on arrival but Prixcars had done a magnificent job - no sign of any sort of clean - actually pretty dirty underneath even tho SE Qld weather had been perfect (as normal).
I know the feeling of anticipation, but really, you'll need to occupy yourself gainfully..I'm a teeny bit jealous - but our 2015 is great.
All the best.
J
