nice to see another Ford convert. I have a Turbo Territory Ghia we are getting out of to get the Jeep. I have also had a '04 XR6Turbo (5sp), BF Typhoon and now a GT-E, so I also love my Fords. The Wife enjoys the kick from the Turbo, so I knew the CRD was the best choice for us.

Found out today that One positive of having to wait NINE months to get my Overland is that I'll be getting a MY2012 with the 6 speed transmission. :)

This might not be the right place to post this but i thought since this is the aussie forum it might be worth it.

I have new rims coming next week and i am using the exisiting tyres, leaving me with the stock laredo 18" rims with nothing to do with them.

Do you think there would be anyone around interested in buying them or would you think its worth keeping them and fitting a set of good off road tyres to them to put on for the occassions im going to do some 4 wheel driving?

#440 ·
Jefferson, sounds good ill message you once i have the new rims on, i really dont know what they would be worth ill have to check it out. Wont be hard to get them to Coffs, i was in Coffs only a couple weeks ago. I didnt notice another GC driving around but if i did i would have been waving around to say hello lol.

Licoric i went to the dealers monday just gone, i didnt have the fault appear again since i was off road but the dealer said they did find a fault code C2221 and they applied TSB 21-008-11 and that it fixed it. I guess i wont know for sure unless i get stuck in the middle of no where again bogged with no 4wd, I really wont be happy if that happens!

They say the TSB applies to vehicles built before June 16 2011, so I would highly reccomend to anyone getting that TSB done before you end up like me and get stuck somewhere. I would hope all the dealers here apply the update automatically but i wouldnt count on it.

The only thing that worries me is that nowhere mentions the QL failing at the same time as the 4wd but that is what happened to me, but both came back to life at the same time so im counting on it that they were related.

QL hasnt failed again since that day, so fingers crossed.

Hey, on this side of the ditch, choices are very limited. Hemi and diesel are only available in Overland "fully loaded" spec $92990 V8 and $97990 for the diesel with the V6 petrol in "Limited" spec at $84000.

My Stone White Overland CRD is confirmed for delivery on Friday July 29th. I hope it lives up to expectations, as I have only driven a Limited Hemi at this stage.

I have had an 05 CRD Limited and an 08 Overland CRD, both power chipped to 195kw and 610NM so hoping the new wagon will not disappoint. Idid consider waiting for the new 8 speed ZF gearbox equipped version to arrive, but have been advised that we will need to wait another two years. This box will feature in the new 300c in showrooms October this year.

Cheers Chris

You will love the CRD, it felt faster than the Hemi, as the boost just pushes you in the seat.
I think it will be the motor of choice for most people.

As for trade-in, I was offered $30k for my Territory Turbo Ghia '07, which is a fair price. I should be able to get $35k on a private sale as it is a 7 seater with all the options. The timing of getting the new car will be everything, as to if I trade or sell privately.
Hopefully I will get a few weeks warning when my car hits Oz next month.

Do not let a good car get away just because you do not get what you want on a trade. Look in carsales what the street price and how many are listed to get a good idea on what it is worth. Also have a look in www.redbook.com.au to get an idea of the tradin value. Selling privately can be a real PIA, especially if it is a common car.

Yeah I will keep working on it I just wanted more time to work through it and try and understand how the deal was working. In the end the change over figure is all that really matters as numbers can be made to do whatever you want and that what I was uncomfortable about. I could have one in 10 days as they have the colour i am after in there August shipment. I will hit them up on Monday after I have spoken to my finance broker and work it out.
And yeah the Turbo has a very nice lay you back in the seat feel and the speedo winds out effortlessly.

#451 ·
Sorry for intrusion guys:)
I have been monitoring the topic very closely as I am also waiting for my Laredo.
However, I got fascinated by recent talk about CRD and now I am not quite sure if I made the right choice. To make sure I just put together some numbers and they do not seem to make much sense to me. Would you please correct me if I am wrong?

Today’s fuel prices: $135.9 (regular unleaded) $143.90 (diesel). Average consumption per 100 km is 12.5l and 8l respectively. It means that it will cost $16.99 (petrol) and $12.95 (diesel) to cover 100km. Hence the economy is $4.04 per 100km. So, one will have to travel at least 120.000 kilometers for diesel premium to be paid off. This sounds like too much given rave diesel reviews all around.

Of course, I you do serious towing or a lot of off-road then you do not have much choice. But what is so special in diesel for average Joe who will never leave city like me? No offense to anyone.

#452 ·
It really depends what you do with it In my case It would repay itself within 4 years but I am also banking yhat the diesel will be the car of choice in the next few years so it should hold a $2-$2500 better resale. I am sure the V6 petrol will be fine and I am still considering it myself but having driven the turbo now I am hooked on it and just love the way it delivers its power, WK2JGC summed it up perfectly in the diesel thread on this site.

The v6 petrol is an ok motor, but forget getting 12's/100km in the city as the consumption will more likely be 14>, it is also underpowered for such a big car. We are also betting on the CRD being worth a lot more than the Hemi at sale time. You can also bet that petrol will be continually going up in price, where diesel seems to be more stable in cost, as it does not fluctuate with the pricing cycles. I have also seen the price being equal most of the week, so the difference is just not there naymore, unless you only buy fiel on cheap tuesdays or whatever day it is now. I also have to use 98RON fuel which is always 16c p/l more than ULP, so fuel costs will be better with the CRD.

Who know's which is the right motor, but I knew I would not be happy with the v6 after being in a turbo Territory and the Hemi is thirsty and felt slower than the CRD. As the price was the same as the Hemi, it was a no brainer for me, we do not get the v6 as an option in the overland model. From what I have seen the Hemi in real world city driving is getting 21lt/100km, where the CRD seems to always be under 10lt/100km, this is where we will make back the savings.

AussieWK2, have you received a VIN for your car ? I would be surprised if you will see your car this year as CRD Overlands are very rare and desirable, we have hear of people being told after mark 2012 for cars ordered in the past few weeks. I hope you do get it soon, but ask for the VIN or E number so you know where it is. This site can track based on that info.

Makes sense now. I forgot about standard HEMI in Overlands. Choosing between CRD and HEMI I would probably also go with the first option.
PS I really buy petrol on cheap Wednesdays, he-he:)

Hey Enforcer
Yep, got my VIN and have been advised my CRD Overland is on the Fidelio (Wilhelmsen vessel) which passed through the Panama Canal late last week heading south.

I tested the V6 and Hemi back in May and got into a CRD 2 weeks ago. Wanted to sign with a Brisbane dealer there and then but they had nothing. SO.....I got on to Suttons in Sydney and snapped up one they had just about to leave Detroit.

I own a freight forwarding / logistics company and can track vessels through various shipping lines etc but could not see how to track on this site, I'd be keen to find out

The laredo V6 is the bargain in GC. Less than 50 drive away and plenty too choose from means deals to had!;)

The only test drive before my purchase was in that vehicle,
I found the interior layout was excellent, and the cloth seats to be some of the best i've sat on, [9 new cars in 23 years] as for the engine what holds it back is the rather mushy auto, but once on go not a problem, I also liked the way it cruised around the burbs, just nice and easy, after all it is a true 4 wheel drive not a traffic light dragster. I've still got the XR6T in the side drive for that.

My choice for the diesel was based on tow capacity only, I needed 2.6 T, and
then what GC I could get, supply will get better next year I'm guessing, but no matter what the choice, as long as it suits your needs then that's what you go with.

Although mine has some neat features I could have lived without them and kept the 15k in my pocket , just remember, an Overland is a tarted up Laredo:rolleyes:

Jefferson, Coffs harbour is hardly city driving. I was more referring to CITY driving in the way of bumper to bumper Sydney traffic. My Turbo Territory averages 19lt/100km for the past 4 years, as it is the shopping and school bus as well as the family truckster. I would not think for a minute that the Hemi would be any better in my useage. Heaps of short runs tends to use a lot of fuel as they are always on the warmup cycle. I also found the Hemi lazy and missing the urge of the turbo, but then Turbo cars tend to make them feel faster due to the boost hitting.

#461 ·
Hmm, your probably right, I used to do that years ago, probably worse now, I gotta admit I'm not to worried about fuel economy or resale values 5 years down the track... life's to short, all the GC's are great, we spent yesterday out in the forest and finished with a blast along the beach, gotta to tell ya its awesome fun on a deserted beach, hosed under it last night, now to wash it properly... not so fun.

I haven't had a service yet, i am just about to hit 9000Km's so a little bit to go. My services get charged back to the leasing company but when i do get it done i will make sure i find out how much the charge was.

I have to head over to Perth for the week for work, I'm going to be sad and will miss my Jeep, oh yeah and my gf in case she reads this post

Our fuel prices in NZ favour diesel even more so than Australia, although we do have a separate road tax for diesel vehicles and annual registration is $200 dearer.

When I took a WK2 5.7 Hemi for a test drive I towed our 2500kg caravan around 130km, from sea level over several large twisty hills then back to sea level. I then returned by the same route, without the van.

Towing = 24.8lt / 100km
Not towing = 12.0lt / 100km

Our 2008 WH Overland CRD returned the following results over the same route.

Towing = 18.3lt / 100km
Not towing = 10.1lt / 100km

On our current fuel pricing, and not allowing for the extra efficiency of the WK2 diesel engine, I did an analysis based on 10,000km over one year, with 3000km towing the van and 7000km general running. This included all the extra costs (taxes) associated with operating a diesel vehicle in NZ.

The petrol (V8 Hemi) fuel cost $4000.00

Diesel all added costs including fuel. $2460.00

Saving $1540 per year.

There is a $5000 premium for the diesel in NZ, but judging by the prices and availability of used WH - WK petrols / diesels at present, that extra value more than carries rifht through the life of the vehicle.

Our new stone white Overland CRD arrives at the dealership tomorrow, and we will take delivery on Friday.

Sold our 2008 mineral grey Overland CRD with 85000km for $47,000 privately, (dealer offered $35k to trade), but still gives the wallet a bashing for the $96990 + on road costs ($2500) for the new one. I am sure it will be worth it as I am confident this new generation Jeep is a worthy competitor, to Audi Q7, VW Touareg, ML Mercedes, BMW X5 and completely outclasses the Toyota Prado in every respect.

Roll on Friday:):)

Cheers Chris

#468 ·
Hey Nut, are you saying that in NZ you pay a $5k premium for the CRD over the Hemi ?
If that is the case you are being double ripped by Jeep, as it is the same cost for Hemi/CRD in Oz. It is also crazy how much more they cost just for the car over there in comparison to our pricing. Please post pics and give us a review when you get it.

#469 ·
I did an exercise a couple of weeks ago on the Australian Jeep website and priced a new Overland CRD pretending I was from Melbourne and then changed the Aussie dollars to our peasant dollars and it came out to $104000!!! So I think we are suffering from two problems, the Kiwi dollar exchange rate and the fact that NZ is only getting fully loaded Overland spec in Hemi and CRD. Only the V6 Penstar is available in Limited and Laredo is not even priced here.

Cheers Chris

Saw a brilliant black JGC in Sydney cbd today, looked sooooo good. Looks extremely muscular, partly due to it being a bit short and tall. When I pointed it out to a friend, he was like which? The Audi? I was like no, it's a jeep, and he was like wtf it looks awesome

Now getting even more impatient lol

#472 ·
I am yet to see any in the wild yet. See heaps of X5, ML, Q7 and RR, but no JGC's which is a good thing as they will be rare. Good to see a few people getting their now.
