Re: WK2 - Minor Fault Summary

I don't even think I have one. I havent looked too hard though. I believe it is fitted like a tailgate of a ute. So when you open the boot nothing comes tumbling out on top of you.

Re: WK2 - Minor Fault Summary

It strings across the middle of the boot from left to right. Mine is still in the bag, as it looks like it is suitable for shopping or small items. I do not think many people will use it, as it is small and weak. It attaches to the plastic clips below the rear side windows.

Re: WK2 - Minor Fault Summary

My headlight washers have stopped working. Tried 10 times wash/wipe but no water on headlights. One of the headlight washers was renewed after my emu-crash, maybe it has something to do with that.

Another funny thing is that the ventilation recirc doesn't switch off after a time anymore. I won't complain about it as I like it much better now, but strange...

Also it has happened a couple of times that the quadralift has raised itself to auto position when starting the car after having stopped in the low park mode. Could be a worry as I use the park mode height in low clearance car parks.

Now I'm at it with all the small niggles, there is a faint brake squeal when braking lightly and a strange scraping sound from the front right if a do a quick left-right-left turn (going fast through a small almost straight roundabout). Thought it was the compressor coming on as it sounds a bit like the clicking sound, but then one day I did a fast right-left-right and the same sound came from the front left. I can't figure out what would scrape and can't see any marks anywhere so this is a mystery.

Enough for now, except the seating position is not as good as in my old Ford Escape, and being a short driver I can't use the left foot rest without conflict with the park brake pedal. Anybody managed to modify the park brake pedal?

Did you ever get this resolved? We've found it being inconsistent once it started doing this and know "seems" to only do it following an overnight stop. Irritating.

We raised it to the dealer and they found it doing it consistently !!! and have reported it to the powers above.

I had the park brake light switch problem too. Whenever I hit bumps, the light would come. Very annoying on a rough road. I didn't want to take it to the dealer. My experience is they give it to the apprentices who rips out everything in the vicinity, finds nothing and put it back together with half the rivets and screws missing. So I had a play around myself. There is a green wire from a connector on the pedal mechanism that runs down into the wiring harness. The wire is quite tight. I moved it around to ease the tension and pulled up the wiring harness to give the green wire more slack. That did the trick. The worry is that I couldn't determine the actual fault. Did I fix it or did I just relieve the cause with it coming back at a later date. Did I mention I hate working under the dashboard.

Re: WK2 - Minor Fault Summary

I got them to fix it at the 10k service.

The theory is the the right hand drive workers on the production line get a little confused which way to route the wire. If it's routed the wrong way the wire is pinched as was the case with mine.

Have no trouble with it now. In fact, for 6 months I've been on auto pilot. My routine was to start the car, release the park brake and then push it down 1 notch to stop the chime and flashing light. I'm now trying to break that habit!

All I have now is a rattling passenger seat and ratting hood release latch.

I found (with the help of this forum) that the parking brake wire wears through and shorts out on the metal bracket it passes over. I taped up the worn section and solved the brake light issue.

Re: WK2 - Minor Fault Summary

I had a considerable amount of smoke coming from front end on Sunday. I think it might have been caused by not fully releasing the footbrake as the drivers side rim was quiet warm (not hot). Smelt like acrid burning paper rather than rubber/oil.Nothing coming from under the bonnet. Drove home with special attention to release the footbrake fully and all was good.Something I need to keep an eye on for sure. (The warning light goes out whilst there is still an inch or so of travel).

Re: WK2 - Minor Fault Summary

I am not 100% on where the handbrake grabs but it would either be the rear wheels or the drive shaft (most 4x4)
Smoke from the front end would not be a hand brake, but more likely an binding caliper or problem with wheel bearings.
I would get it checked out ASAP as it is not normal.

Re: WK2 - Minor Fault Summary

Had the same park brake issue for the past month, the chime was doing my head in. Finally got it booked into the dealer for next week.....

But after reading about the wire issue, had a look for myself. Exact same thing, green wire had worn through.

I simply taped up the worn section, placed a small cut into the edge of the carpet and put the wire down into the cut. This moved the wire away from the metal bracket and problem solved in 2 mins!

Thanks for the info, I hate even thinking about taking it back to the dealer, they are useless.
