Hey mate, no real photos - we just took photos of my 1 year old child background on the beach instead!

The beach looked pretty normal to me, i'm not sure what it was like beforehand but at low tide there was plenty of (boggy) room. The big dunes were still there and looked plenty steep on some sides. We tried a few different tracks to the top of them, the Jeep did easily as well as my friends Discovery 4.

As benn0 said, 18 inch, in LT construction, word of mouth from a couple of people I spoke to there mentioned that the road tyre users get away with higher pressures than the heavy duty all terrain / mud terrain users.

Re: WK2 Offroad

You were well advised.

I find 12psi or thereabouts is a reasonable pressure for Load Range E 18"s in soft sand. I have a feeling that if I followed some of my previous adventures I'd end up with single digit pressures!

Cheers,
Steve

From W.A, better than equal chance you know all about soft sand, thanks for the tip!

Re: WK2 Offroad

After getting stuck one time with no traction to any wheel (beached down at Walpole - no wheels spinning in Sand mode Low) I've started looking at how the Selec-Terrain settings other than Sand might help get me out if I belly it out again.

A video I found on YT by Jeep, suggests that the front axle is somehow locked at 50-50 torque split in Rock mode. Is this right, and if so, how do thay achieve this? I don't have the rear LSD, so am keen to understand how best to achieve traction in this circumstance. I would imagine that locking an axle would help somewhat, as one could at least rely on it for using reco tracks, right?

Re: WK2 Offroad

Simon this 50/50 split refers to front/rear, so it's effectively like a conventional 4WD, in 4WD. The only cross axle support is Traction Control, or ELSD where fitted.

Cheers,
Steve

Re: WK2 Offroad

Thanks, maybe check out what is being described here, it def intimates there is a torque split across the front axle. Or I've had 1 too many beers. Maybe it is done by traction control?

Re: WK2 Offroad

That appears to be quite a deceptive misuse of terminology given the absence of the word "rear". Immediately after mentioning the aspect we're discussing, the dialogue outlines the cross axle behaviour.

Never blame the beer. Thank the beer.
