Ha ha. Don't feel too bad. We were there on a jet skiing trip and this was a bit of extra curricular activity!

Re: WK2 Offroad

Nice pics! We were out at Whitehill beach near Mandurah last weekend for the day. I only have good things to say about this car on sand, am very impressed. I just have the v6 laredo. It's handling sections that my previous 4x4's would have bogged into, with ease, and as was already mentioned in this thread, there isn't a need for low range, paddle shifting nor a heavy foot, the sand mode just works a treat! Driving in auto mode on sand, getting going then flicking it into sand mode, there is an appreciable difference in traction.

Just picked up the Mopar underbody kit tonight, so will have some more fun with this car after fitting these bad boys..

Re: WK2 Offroad

Good advice! I've got the Chief one already, as the factory one did not last beyond the first trip out 😎

Re: WK2 Offroad

Agree with the comments. It's a different driving style, you need momentum but you don't need to crash through sections like an old school 4wd, you maintain a steady foot and let the jeep swim through the sand.

Re: WK2 Offroad

Got the TCM updated, problem fixed. The TCM update also made everything else better too. Now I need to organise a sand test

Re: WK2 Offroad

Just got seriously bogged today on Blue Holes beach near Walpole. During the process I found that exactly 0 wheels would turn when I had it in reverse in high-range sand mode. In low-range, the expected 2 wheels spun. Didn't seem right at all, was revving it and got nothing... Ended up being a fun day of digging sand instead of fishing haha. Eventually got out using mud mode, 4 reco tracks and a few helpers..

Cheers, Simon

Traction Control at its worst.

Re: WK2 Offroad

According to the dash cluster the traction control was off. ESC maybe? Can't let this one go, will raise it with Jeep.

Re: WK2 Offroad

I think in Sand Mode, Traction Control is still partially enabled... just somewhat retarded. Exactly how much and in what way I have not yet ascertained, but I experienced similar on my last trip.

Cheers,
Steve

Re: WK2 Offroad

Yeah, I think in sand mode TC does still get engaged, it just does it less aggressively. If you flick through the EVIC screens to the all terrain screen I think it gives you some details.

I'm guessing you have quadra trac, not quadra drive? The thing here is you want to get the wheels spinning so that the brakes will grab it and send power to the others.

edit: does anyone else notice that little ratcheting noise just after TC has kicked in? I've had it on slippery bitumen, and soft sand, a little clicking noise for a few seconds after the wheels spin.... coming from the front.
