I'm only a couple of years behind you! And I had thought of carrying steps. So I'll give it a go.
Thanks,

Re: WK2 Offroad

METHOD 1:
Throw a rope over a tree branch, and tie the tyre to one end of the rope. Hoist the tyre into the air, higher than the car roof. Drive the Jeep under the tyre. Lower the tyre onto the roof by releasing the rope. Reverse process to lower tyre.

METHOD 2:
Call Jeep Roadside assist. When they arrive, ask them to remove spare from the roof. Then ask them to change the tyre. Before leaving, ask them to place old tyre on the roof. Thank them and drive off.

Re: WK2 Offroad

Good plan! I actually called Jeep Assist from the road to the Mornington Wilderness Camp, about 60km south of the Gibb River road in the Kimberley, because of a check engine light. They offered to send someone from Broome, 400 odd km away on largely lousy roads, to take a look. So I guess they may well do it for a flat!
(In the event, I spoke to the guy in Broome via sat phone, and decided to take the risk and drive to him - dirty oxygen sensor. But JA paid for a rental car and a nights accomodation).

Yeah, I forgot that the original spare was quite a bit lighter than my current tires are.

Re: WK2 Offroad

Yesterday we went down to Nowra and Yalwala Forest to tackle Monkey Gum and Wombat Creek rds.
We had a lot of fun and want to go back again soon, it is a pretty popular track. We had a bit of a play along the Powerline track as well which was pretty tricky in spots.

Wanted to show two clips, one is of my jeep heading up a section and the other is my brother in laws Toyota heading up the same section. I dont have the EDiff and he doesnt have a locker.

You can see the difference and he also smashed the stump pretty hard.

WK2 Offroad

Nice video - looks like a fun day. I'm not surprised by the lack of ability of the Toyota. I went on a tag along last year and the guy in the Hilux held up the group all day. Clearly demonstrates old tech ( no tech?) in old Toyotas V modern tech in the GC.

Thanks nice vids. Not having the e-diff on my GC, that gives me more confidence about the abilities of my car. Can't wait to get her off-road again.

Cheers, Simon

Re: WK2 Offroad

The 4wd system is very capable. We probally take a bit of time as well and get out and check the lines for diffacult sections or spot each other.

What do you guys do with the Jeep to avoid the scratches from the scrub?

I bought a colour that wouldn't show them up too much.. 👍
Figured if I'm going to use it properly, the scratches are inevitable.
Sometimes still wish I went for the Black though, looks best!

Cheers, Simon

Did your brother-in-law order his new Jeep yet:roll eyes: Very nice videos comparing two platforms?

Do you have QL and if so what setting?

Re: WK2 Offroad

Yes have the air suspension and it was on its highest setting.
I found myself especially over a lot of the rock ledges that the Jeep would scrap/hit.

Is there a way to lift it higher?
