Re: WK2 Offroad

No water from that crossing but mud and water from the mud hole i went through.
I actually pulled the whole airbox out today and cleaned it all up. The brand new air filter needs replacing after only about 4,000klms and has mud in it.
Was meaning to get up to REPCO for the 30% off sale today but left it too late.

I think with the lower guard removed and the perhaps the large slots in the Chief bashplate the mud splashes up through the gap between the engine and airbox. Especially as you drop into deep mud holes.

I didnt realise a mate filmed me going through so it might explain how mud and water got in by what looks like from above the headlight when we went through.

Re: WK2 Offroad

Does anyone have the air suspension and struggle with articulation? I find that the jeep is throwing legs in the air all the time as when on OR1 OR OR2 it doesnt seem to flex very much. Comparing to a friends prado just seems to be able to walk up sections that the jeep scrapples up.

Nice. Yeah could have. If you look at my photo you'll see what I mean. There was no mud on the light or bonnet.

Yeah, it's because when it raises it is extending the shock buy putting more air in and results in it being stiffer, and having limited compression.

I went wheeling with a Land Rover Disco recently with air suspension. That system seems to have a bit more flex than the Jeep. I had wheels off the ground where he didn't.

Mine does. I was turning around in a trail the other day and had to back over a low berm (maybe 10-12") at an angle and it had a leg or two in the air at normal ride height. It doesn't seem to articulate well at all. My full frame straight rear axle rear leaf spring pickup has much greater travel. I thought that was the whole point of independent front and rear suspension was to keep it planted at all four corners. It certainly works that way on my ATV.

Re: WK2 Offroad

Do you have the air suspension as well? Is it related to just the air suspension models or do the vehicles with normal suspension also do it?

I see what you mean. Do you think and aftermarket snorkel would solve the problem?

Yes, I have the quadra-lift. I couldn't answer your second question as mine is the only WK2 I've even been in. I've only had it for around three months or so.

The main advantage with Independent suspension is having less unsprung weight, so the shocks can work better over bumps at speed. Live axles give a bit better articulation offroad because as one side is lifted, the other side is pivoted down.

You can make independent suspension travel more, but then you will have more body roll on road. The GC is much better onroad than the Prado, but in the end you have to pay a price offroad for that. The prados with KDSS have a bit less body roll onroad, and more articulation offroad.

Yeah definitely stop water going into the air intake. Once water goes in and hydrolocks the engine, it's all over.

Rang Murchison Products today. About $1050 fully installed. Will get it done when I head up to QLD later this year.
