Re: WK2 Snorkel
In the old days, before CanBus, I would use the wire from the back of the highbeam plug to run the trigger for a relay, which in turn is driving the new Lamps. You would then run the main power to the relay via a seperate switch on the dash. That way, with the switch OFF, only High Beam would come on. With the switch ON, both High Beam and Driving lights would activate. The wire from the high beam only acted as a switch for the relay, so was not drawing big current. I guess it would depend how the CanBus is interpreting the draw of current to the lights, and whether it detecting a foreign object, would cause it to have fits.
I am to understand that CanBus is monitoring the lights for auto lights as well as detecting blown bulbs. This is also why you cannot add LED's as CanBus would detect a different load.
Hope I have been of some help. If you have friends with a VW, or even visit the VW forums, they might be able to assist, as VW's have had CanBus for years. Anyway, a good young autoelectrician should be able to resolve. An oldie may not be upto speed.
