You wouldn't want the Airflow one to get hooked up on a branch!

Re: WK2 Snorkel

Am thinking to install a Rhino roof Platform, mount some LED Lights to it, as well as the Murchinson snorkel.
Can run the wiring through the snorkel, and fit a plug at the top, so that when the rack is installed, the lightbar can be simply plugged in.

Alan the intention of all that stuff is that you actually take your vehicle off road, not leave it in a garage 24/7. LOL Also don't forget it would get dirty if you took it off road....

Good point. I get carried away some times.
Reminds me, I need to remove some dust from under the wheel arches.

I beg to differ. This gear is intended to have the same effect as tattoos down one arm, a mullet and an ear ring but without the need to disfigure one's body.

I agree with this... just had this discussion in the AJOR forum, the snorkel doesn't really add anything to the offroad ability of the GC, as I see it. The official wading depth is 510mm, this is the level at which Jeep have waterproofed the holes and seams in the car. Any higher then this and you risk water in the cabin and the electronics, these are things the snorkel doesn't help you with. So it seems the reason for fitting a snorkel might just be asthetics, although one owner with the airflow snorkel also says it has improved fuel economy, and another reason may be to prevent water in the intake if you accidentally exceed the wading depth by a large margin. Still the electronics may be flooded.

This one is a good example, a Prado with snorkel, didn't save him, it was a write off:

Re: WK2 Snorkel

Oh dear.

- Have your recovery gear connected to the vehicle negotiating the crossing prior to entering. They did well hooking up that quickly.
- If success is marginal, have it connected to the recovery vehicle as well (front, back or both).
- Don't leave your windows up if floating off or being swept away is a possibility. They may not work when flooded, and may be your quickest exit.

Thanks for the link Benn0, I don't get this kind of thing emailed to me hourly any more. I half feel sick for them, and half get some Machiavellian enjoyment out of it.

Cheers,
Steve

Re: WK2 Snorkel

Seems to me with water that deep (looks to me about 1m+) once you stand still the water is in and you're done. If you keep some momentum you have some chance of keeping the water out.

I would have liked to have known what killed the car and how the water got in. I read another story about a different 150 Prado being written off at Nolans, there was a mechanic there with a diag machine, it couldn't read the ECU, and the dash was lit up with warning lights. I'm guessing the ECU is susceptible at that water depth.

Prado drowned at Nolans:
Nightmare at Nolanís.

Re: WK2 Snorkel

You're spot on with regards to stopping and water entry. It's amazing how much water doesn't come in when you've got half to walking pace happening. As soon as you slow below that it pours in everywhere.

Prado ECU is at the top of the passenger's dash, forward / above of the glove box. It would have been damned close to that height based on what could be seen from outside the vehicle!

Ciao!
Steve

Re: WK2 Snorkel

Anyone know where the JGC's CPU is? It might be an idea to provide some additional waterproofing.
