Re: WK2 Snorkel

Any new updates from Airflow. I recently wrote Murchison and this is the response I got:

Hi there, sorry we're able to give a release date for it as yet. Production costs are high at the moment so we've put it on the back burner.

R
Stu

So it doesn't look like they'll be putting it out any time soon.

By the way, Hi with my first post. I have 2011 Overland edition, blackberry pearl with black interior. Mods so far just include 18" wheels with 265/60 Cooper AT3s (wish I had gone with 275/65s and cooper STTs) Mopar skid plate package, tow hooks, smittybilt beaver tail, and roof rack that I'm currently customizing. I have the RRO pre-runner, bumper, and brush guard gimmicks on order with a winch too. I've taken this thing offroad a number of times already and I am very impressed with the capability of the "luxury" vehicle, as were all the peeps in Wranglers, Tacomas, and LR Discos I went out with last time.

WK2 for the win

Jason

P.S. Im in CT if anyone is around and wants to go out.

Re: WK2 Snorkel

Well airflow were saying 4 weeks, and that was 2 weeks ago. Bad news on the Murchison snorkel.

Airflow are also doing a smaller head for theirs, might be a bit more visually acceptable.... I think they were saying a few months for that.

edit: Oh and welcome, would love to see some pics of your trips and the mods.

Re: WK2 Snorkel

Ok I'll stay tuned to airflow such a long list of mods to do but I'd like a snorkel at some point.

Thanks man, I've been trolling the forums for awhile. I posted a new member thread on the main page and I'll try to get some pics and links to videos on there tomorrow.

Yep Nolan's claims another victim ah BennO, But the PRADO guy did break a few rules like following the exact path of the 2 tractors in front, standard height, road tires, no blind, the big hole was on the Left (less it varied that year) not having the strap already connected, I think the JEEP would float before it gained any traction! The GCs got to much electronics involved to go dunking in the pool like that.

Sure, I was mainly looking at what happens to a modern diesel with all the electronics when you go a foot over official wading depth, even with a snorkel. A snorkel on the old tractors meant they could keep going even when you were up to your neck in it, but the modern trucks have too much stuff that doesn't like getting wet.

Just makes me think we are wasting our time putting a snorkel on these cars. Although I did find some interesting examples of water 'splashes' that might change some minds:

Thanks for the examples. However, note that none of them used a tarp or taped over the gap between the bonnet and the grill. I would have thought that was standard practice for water crossings.

Re: WK2 Snorkel

Yep, that JK owner went a bit overboard. The other WK2 owner says he went through a few inches of water at 5mph.... but that doesn't add up in my view, something else must have been happening there.

But yeah, something over the bonnet lip would be helpful.

Re: WK2 Snorkel

So I recently received an email from Airflow stating their WK2 Snorkel for the 5.7L is currently in production and should be available soon from American distributors. So everyone keep their eyes open. I'm still debating on the need/applicability of the snorkel, if nothing else it is kind of the look I am going for and it is a legitimate cold air intake. Not sure how well suited for deep water crossing the WK2 is otherwise though.

Thoughts on if the Snorkel will really increase the 18" suggested wading depth?

Re: WK2 Snorkel

Michael from airflow sent me a message yesterday saying that the new snorkel shipment should be here in about 4 weeks, there is a limited number, but if people contact Ateco they may increase the number being sent Ateco's number is 03 95747422 ... Michael also mentioned a smaller air ram will become available soon but also said the smaller air ram may limit performance . the standard snorkel comes with the bigger ram it is needed to suit the plumbing of the wk2 because of limited space to get air to the air box. the smaller ram would need to be ordered
