Just makes me think we are wasting our time putting a snorkel on these cars. Although I did find some interesting examples of water 'splashes' that might change some minds:

I'm shocked to see how weak these modern jeeps are. I will keep my old CJ7 no matter how many rust holes I patch.

DID NOT WORK as you can see by the photos.

As I am about to travel through the Australian interior I want this problem solved fast as I do not want a damaged engine.

Yes, the Airtech clearly has a much better dispersal system as I stated earlier.

I am really regretting spending the money on the Murchison snorkel. I bought it as a device to protect my Jeep BUT so far it has endangered my Jeep. NOT HAPPY.

If it is not fixed soon Consumer Affairs will be in as will my lawyers as so far the unit is NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not surprised you are upset. Water in a petrol engine is an inconvenience. Water in a diesel means no more motor. Thank goodness the filter is doing a good job.

WK2 Snorkel

There is also a big difference between a cup of water going down the air in take which will hydro lock a motor and a partly wet filter..

Obviously a slightly wet filter is not a major concern but incles of water and a thoroughly soaked filter are FAR MORE SERIOUS as in my case. I don't panic easily but raise legitimate concerns.

Just do the basic volumetrics 3x8mm holes can't possibly remove all the water in heavy rain. I also query what three holes in the back of the head do for airflow let alone aesthetics.

Stay posted.

The only snorkel that I know that is properly aerodynamically designed is the airflow snorkel but speaking of aesthetics, it looks as if it could swallow a low flying duck.

Re: WK2 Snorkel

Just noticed the two screws securing the top part of the snorkel have started rusting. Why couldn't they have used stainless instead of cheap screws, not a fan of that rusty stain look. ImageUploadedByJeepGarage1468994323.056377.jpg

A bad look indeed. You have to replace them. What brand snorkel is it?

It figurers, Murchison produce some great stuff but attention to detail leaves a bit to be desired.

Wade did you replace the zinc passified self-drilling ones going into the bodywork too? I'd put a bit of polyurethane in the hole and around the screw before pulling them down.

Cheers,
Steve

Very true, they need to take a leaf out of chief products book in that regard.

Steve I didn't replace them but I might now that you mention it.

Chief's attention to detail is outstanding and I respect the effort they go through to ensure their products bolt on, without drilling!
