2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee will not start

I have a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0L that periodically will not start. It will start properly for several days then you can come out to it to get in and it will not start It does not turn over or click, it makes no discernible noise whatsoever. All lights, gauges, radio, etc. power up and work properly. I replaced the battery approximately 3 weeks ago because it had a bad cell but this problem had started before that was an issue. I had the new battery checked for a bad cell as well but it is in excellent shape. I get no jumping gauges, (been there before too and solved), and the voltage gauge appears to be charging properly.
I have thought that it might be in the ignition switch.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Re: 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee will not start

Jump your starter relay next time it wont start, I believe your looking for pin 87 on the relay (should be a diagram printed on the relay). Stick one end of a wire on the Battery + and the other end to this pin (have the relay removed), if it cranks it is a control issue (ign switch or park neutral safety switch, or circuit issues), if it doesnt crank you need a starter as your bypassing all vehicle controls to start the car and sending power straight to the starter solenoid.

Re: 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee will not start

I have an 01 limited and experienced the same problem. I couldn't figure it out either and the not starting became more and more frequent. So after weeks of trials and investigating I found that my Negative battery cable was severely corroded (About 4 inches behind the terminal in the actual cable housing) so i had the battery cables replaced and that solved my problem. How do you get it started when this happens?
