2004 GC Limited Turning Problem

Hey all- I just bought a 2004 Grand Cherokee limited and I've noticed it has an issue with tight turns. Any time i try to make a tight turn into a parking space etc., it feels like something is rubbing and gets sort of jumpy as I'm pulling into the turn. Does anybody know what this is? I'm wondering if it might just be the quadra tracII gripping the pavement but I'm not sure. Please let me know if you've had this issue or know what it is.

Re: 2004 GC Limited Turning Problem

Hey Lambar12,

I've had this develop in my '04 GC with Quadra Drive every time the differential oil is changed. After a few days run-in, it starts to groan and skip on tight slow turns like when parking. The viscous couplings start grabbing, and the tires will crab as they approach steering lock. Have your dealer or mechanic top up the limited slip additive. Costs about ten bucks, and will very likely solve your problem until the next time you change differential oil......then just tell them to top it up again.

Everything's better with proper lubrication.

Re: 2004 GC Limited Turning Problem

BTW Lambar12.....your Jeep has two very typical GC problems. Don't get discouraged with your new ride, Jeeps are great vehicles, and these things are sometimes very easy and cheap to fix. Hopefully, you will be able to put it right with the suggestions here. Enjoy your new Jeep and go bash some snowdrifts!

Re: 2004 GC Limited Turning Problem

I've been having the same problem lately but for me it's the power steering pump.

Re: 2004 GC Limited Turning Problem

Had the same issue on my '02 model with quadradrive system. Replaced both the front and rear diff fluid with new fully synthetic 75W-140 and the recommended Mopar friction modifier. Problem solved.

Note that it may not be necessary to drain and replace the fluid, but just adding more friction modifier did not solve the problem in my case.
