Re: 4.0l I6 Temperature question

mine is in F, yours is obv C.

but my temp gauge sits right about 11-12 oclock on the gauge. if im idling in very hot weather, it may go a bit past 12 towards 1 oclock. but no more than one line. i have never seen it past that. 130,000 miles.

Re: 4.0l I6 Temperature question

The engine in question is the 4.0L i6 and every single Jeep that I've ever owned with that engine has run at 210F or roughly 99C.

Re: 4.0l I6 Temperature question

Mine runs just shy of 210. Most likely in the 190-200 range.

Re: 4.0l I6 Temperature question

Mine runs a little less than 210. But on hot days it will go up to 210.

Re: 4.0l I6 Temperature question

Thanks for the info guys mine is running just under 100c after just changing the electric fan relay my concern is the fan comes on at about 70c and stays on all the time therafter
Oh dont believe the instuctions from chrysler jeep they say the relay is on the side of the cold air intake snorkel . the relay is on the opposite side ( the battery side) this applies to the 2002 4.0l I6 grand limited

Yes, if I remember correctly it's under the passenger side headlight. You pretty much need to take the bumper cover off to get to it.

Re: 4.0l I6 Temperature question

Although the factory service manual calls for removing the front bumper cover and wheel well liner, there is an easier way .....

Replacing an electric fan solenoid

Re: 4.0l I6 Temperature question

thnaks Joe i pretty much did the repair like you suggested. unfortunatly i have not had the jeep very long and am unsure wether the repair is correct or not. the fan comes on at 70C and stays on even when driving it only turns of when the ignition is turned off. If anyone has any thoughts on this i would be glad to here them.

Re: 4.0l I6 Temperature question

The fan should not remain on constantly. If may cycle on and off rather often if it is extremely hot out and you are running the AC. Still it should shut off at some point, especially while cruising at highway speeds.

I will check one of my service manuals tomorrow and see if it has any suggestions on what the problem may be .....

Re: 4.0l I6 Temperature question

Your problem could be the engine coolant temp sensor. The PCM uses this temperature signal for various calculations, but also to send a signal to the fan relay to switch on the fan. Check the connector first to see if the pins are clean and not corroded.
