4.7 Liter engine swap

I have bad '99, 4.7L engine with a 16 teeth tine wheel. Now I can get a '02 4.7L HO engine, also with a 16 teeth tone wheel. I know the '02 has the knock sensors and dont believe the '99 is equipped with that.
Can I just swap the standard '99 with the '02 HO engine?
Since the knock sensors are not sending any signals and my computer is not set up to receive signals from he knock sensors, it should not effect the running of the engine. Am I correct?

Re: 4.7 Liter engine swap

I don't think its a good idea to run a HO engine with the PCM programmed for the standard 4.7. The knock sensors are there not for nothing and you take the change to damage the engine when knock occurs. And probably the program for the standard 4.7 is different then for the HO engine.

Re: 4.7 Liter engine swap

all you need is a 4.7 ho with the same tone ring and some custom tuning through SCT or a custom flashed B&G pcm

Re: 4.7 Liter engine swap

Thanks a lot.
I am no mechanic and I have tried several sites to get the answer. It is my daughter's jeep and just for running around locally. I found one guy asing the same question at "just ask" and the "mechanic" there replied it was no problem. Just plug 'n play as long as the two engines have the same tone wheel.

It had (and now still has) a knock.
I took the oil pan off and found a rod bearing turned. Cleened and replaced the bearing. Run good for a day, and the a new light knock.
The funny thing is, when it is cold in the morning, there are no knocking. It comes back when reaching normal temperature. Oil pressure showing good.
Have no idea why it knocks when getting warm?

What oil are you running? The knock after warm up is from the oil heating up and becoming thinner. Try running a "thicker" oil and see I it helps with the knock.
