Re: Catch Can?

looks bad ass wanting to do that as well. I think a carbon fiber can would look good hehe! Although that one looks sharp for $80. Keep us posted. Spring/summer is here I will be out in my shop till midnight tinkering with stuff like this.

Re: Catch Can?

I was thinking about a catch can for some time. Do you only put the catch can in the PCV line? And what about the gunk which enters the throttle body, which comes from the breathers on top of both valve covers? That is causing the IAC stepper motor to get dirty and also the throttle plate.

Yes, the catch can is only cleaning out the crap from the PCV valve on mine. For the breather I put a breather filter on the line and used a hose clip to keep it in place and looking clean under the hood (can take a picture to show better what I am talking about) then plugged the hole on the intake tube with a cap/plug.

Iīm not sure if that is a good way of dealing with it. By removing the suction on the breathers, there will be less ventilation inside the engine and more change of formation of sludge, which already is known to be a killer for this engine.

Looks as that you are one of the happy few who donīt have the problem of throttle body/IAC canal fouling.
Seems that most people use the catch can on the PCV line and not on the breathers. Via the PCV a lot of oil mist is drawn into the intake and burnt during combustion. This oil will become carbon on hot surfaces like valve stems and cylinder head. In worst cases it can prevent the valve from closing properly and on the cylinder head it can cause pre-ignition.

I have a breather filter on mine and it does a really good job, can't wait for the catch can write up!

Did you put a filter in the line and kept the suction line connected to the resonator box? Seems to be a good solution. Do you have to clean the filter once in a while? Is this a special filter you use?

Must be an '04 thing because my 99 has no breathers in the valve covers.

I made a mistake by saying that they are on the valve covers themselves, because they are actually on the aft side of the cylinder heads, just beside the covers. Also 99 models have them according to the 99-00 manual.

Re: Catch Can?

I would be interested to know how/if someone hooked up a breather filter inline and is still hooked up to the intake tube.

My past vehicles all had the same set up with just a breather filter and never had a problem. I was just sure to always clean that little filter so it can release any gasses it needed without restriction.
