Re: Coolant loss

Hey Guys, this thread is the closest I could find to my coolant problem.
Facts:'04 WJ Laredo Sport I6 engine 93100mi.
I am getting a leak from my radiator. Sweet smell from engine compartment. Not a lot of coolant lose but I don't get a chance to drive my WJ often so that is moot but it is getting more on ground from what I noticed before. White colored spray residue on passenger side of engine on top mostly on heater hoses. I get moisture on my fingers from inside shroud at top. Water seems to run down side of shroud and drips to ground. I cannot see where it may be leaking so far.
Any suggestions on where to start. I am trying to avoid removing anything because I am unemployed so I don't want to have to replace unnecessary parts.
Thanks.

Re: Coolant loss

I would start cleaning the engine bay and let it dry well. Then you can start looking for a leak.

Thanks for the advice. I am one of those backyard mechanics (waaay in the back) that like to work on a clean engine so that part is done. I just cleaned the bay last week.
It looks like a leaking radiator is common with the GC.
It is quite a coincedence that I took my car in to a stealership for routine service and ended up with a leaking radiator.
Thanks again and if you think of anything else please let me know.

Re: Coolant loss

My radiator leak is worse. I can not find any leaking location but I have lost enough coolant to keep it down to the add mark on the overlfow bottle.
My next question: do I have to stick to Chrysler/Jeep coolant or can I buy from Auto Zone "any color" coolant? My manual warns against mixing colors. Thanks for all your help.

Re: Coolant loss

My radiator just decided to split at the seam this week and just my luck I got laid off from my job the day before!

I already priced one at Advance for $129 with a lifetime warranty and it should be here today. My first official day out of work will be Monday and guess what I'll be doing...

Sorry to hear about your luck. I am glad you were able to get a radiator before it was an issue financially.
