If you have 0 luck then get a regular 2-3 claw puller remove the pully and remove cover. At that point replace the water pump with a metal impellar and buy a new cover gasket

Yesterday I did pull the head back off and got the chain back on the idler with hardly any trouble.

I got her all buttoned up today and it started and ran very nicely. I didn't hear any tapping or anything of the sort.

There is one thing that I still need to iron out though. There is a light smoke coming from the engine bay while and after the engine is running. I mainly worked on getting air burped out of the coolant today after getting it put back together. Tomorrow I am going to investigate where the smoke is coming from. Any ideas anyone? I'm having a hard time figuring out if the smoke is exhaust or oil buring.

It should be pretty evident which One it is. If it's oil it will still smoke after you turn it off. Exhaust will stop once engine is turned off.

So either your exhaust manifold bolts are.loose,you.didn't replace gaskets which you.should of, or oil wet headers/exhaust

Re: doing head gasket on 4.7 help

Thanks for the posts guys. I think it was oil from the repair job because I drove it for a few hours today and when I got home and parked it back in the garage I didn't smell or see any smoke! I think I get too jumpy when I complete a project like this haha!

Re: doing head gasket on 4.7 help

if it still runs and idles for a while without overheating. Try blue devil head gasket repair. I bet it works and only cost 60 dollars US. They say its not a perminate fix but I've been running for 60K+. And my leak was bad. Plus I haul ass when I drive. I also don't use a thermostat either just to be safer... Good luck My Jeep is a 4.7 V8 Laredo selectatrac

If you pull the head back off it gives you a slightly better view into the cover. You may want to remove the chain guides and that will also give you more room and play. You may be able to use a ruler with a hole in one end with a bolt through it or something to rest the chain on and help guide the chain back onto the sprocket.
