Re: doing head gasket on 4.7 help

Those marks look like corrosion from the coolant but they could be due to crushed up pieces of the plug insulator. Are they sharp feeling or more dull?

Re: doing head gasket on 4.7 help

You can drive it fine without a tune on PNP heads. You haven't changed the cam which is where the issue would come from. You'll want to tune to get full benefit but it wont hurt you. You may want to stay out of high RPM spirited driving until you can tune it but general driving will be fine.

Re: doing head gasket on 4.7 help

So update: heads are done I have new valve seals cleaned checked welded something and had minutee warpage cost me 465$ for both heads not even thinking bout pnp..... so next year gonna start putting back together.... hope the head gasket was the problem leaking coolant.... the washout on cylinder #8 was minimal if any.... so problem must of started not to long before I tore it apart....

That rough portion on top of the piston could have been from detonation.

Re: doing head gasket on 4.7 help

There is quite a special torque method used for the heads, which can better be shown from the manual itself. I can't save these pages on the computer i'm working on now, so maybe some other member can do it, otherwise i will send it on Thursday.

Here follows the cylinder head torque. Left head is shown, but right is the same. Tomorrow will have a look for the rest.
