Re: Engine swap

I'm trying to get more performance and power. I'm new with WJ's so I'm not quite sure what all is going on. If mine is FI the FI isn't very powerful becuase my dynos are very close to stock. I considered trading it in but my wife just had a baby and I was told no

Re: Engine swap

4.2 crank+rods won't necessarily gain you anything. Remember this: power is made in the head. With the intake and exhaust on the same side with the 4.0, you really can't gain a ton with the airflow having to make a 180deg turn right out of the combustion chamber. Not unless you consider boost, which is a whole 'nother conversation that I don't feel like getting into.

Sell it and buy an Overland if you want big power gains. For $6000(or less), you'll be much better off. The 4.7 is honestly a powerhouse with the right mods, and starting with a H.O. is 80% of the way there. Not to mention you'll acutaly get better real world mileage, driveability, and sound. My '99 non-H.O. can rock out on 75% of the crap out there off the line, and I honestly can't find much to mess with since I put an exhaust on it.

Re: Engine swap

well first, you're NOT F/I lets be clear on the term F/I = Forced Induction. I'm wondering if Dr Locke maybe thought fuel injected... not sure. But anyway, as janibeans said, you wont get a ton of power out of it, but a turbo or supercharger kit will both gain you 100 hp at the wheels. The 4.0's are only rated at 190 horses anyway. So you'd be looking at around 300. What is your overall goal with the motor? To go fast? Tow? Crawl? Just for shits in giggles? Max HP? Max Toque? Figure that out then you can determine what direction to go in.

Re: Engine swap

Just for offroading. I had a 99 Wrangler with the 4.7 that I did a bunch of work to and I found it much easier to offroad than I do in the WJ 4.0 that I have now

Re: Engine swap

For offroading you will want high torque numbers. I would say supercharge it to have instant power or bore and stroke it along with heads/cam intake
