That engine needs a powerwashing.

Re: Have you cleaned your throttle body lately?

Hey Joe and John did you clean it with the Jeep on? I asked the guy to make sure he just said yeah you can keep the engine ON. I did it but you know if was hesitating but I tried my best not to make it stall. At least it's clean.

Re: Have you cleaned your throttle body lately?

I sprayed the carb cleaner on a rag and wiped everything I could reach. Don't want to mess up the electronic stuff.

Re: Have you cleaned your throttle body lately?

What I normally do and have been doing for years without any problems is to spray the thing down real good with cleaner and let it sit for a few minutes. The engine is not running at this time. Then I'll spray it down again and just an old toothbrush to scrub everything including the walls and the top, bottom and edges of the plate. Then I'll squirt it all down once more. Repeat those steps till it is clean enough and then start the engine. Once the engine is running, I;ll spray it all down real good while manually moving the throttle control to keep it from stalling. After that I'll pour a bottle of lucas fuel trt in with the next fill up and repeat it all in about another 30k miles.

Up until now, none of my engines have had the throttle by wire systems so maybe thing will have to change with the 07' WK.

Wow that was dirty. But if you didn't remove it you didn't get it completey clean. Looks much better none the less.

Re: Have you cleaned your throttle body lately?

ive always left the vehicles on in the past, just because the carb cleaner will burn up in the motor..but after the first time doing my own in my wrangler i didnt like the idea of all that crap going into the motor, thats why i took the extra 10 minutes to just take it off and clean it on the counter. nothing goes into the motor, no worries

I'd also do a Seafoam treatment if it were my vehicle as part of the tune up.

Re: Have you cleaned your throttle body lately?

Some engines are for show, some are for go and some are just beaters. This is a 4.0L with over 180k miles in a 9 yr old daily driver. I ain't wasting my time detailing the engine bay on this Jeep.

Now here's an engine bay you could eat off of but I'd suggest you make sure either I or my baby girl aren't around if you wish to walk away!

Re: Have you cleaned your throttle body lately?

Some of you would fall over laughing if I were to post up a pic of the spark plugs I pulled out of the old WJ this morning. Guess it has been longer than I thought. All I am going to say is that they are a testament to the old 4.0l i6. Thing should have never even started let alone run on those plugs!
