Exclamation Horrible fuel economy on a 2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo 4.0

Just bought a 2000 jeep about a month ago and i've noticed that i literally have been getting only 9 - 12 mpg highway. Any ideas on why this might be happening other then in need of a spark plugs replacement air filter change and oil change?

I figure I change everything then doesn't look like who ever else had the car didn't change the things they are supposed to change after certain miles.

Re: Really bad fuel economy 2000 jeep grand cherokee

im like that with a used vehicle as well. things like the plugs, wires, cap, rotors, clean the TB, drain and refill every fluid......

but dont overlook those o2 sensors.......

I agree too. It seems like people just don't really care about cars. Do the fluids, Spark Plugs, and o2 sencors first, and see what happens. Also check your air pressure in the tires. That can make a big difference too.

Re: Really bad fuel economy 2000 jeep grand cherokee

i'll check out the o2s first if i don't see a difference i'll do everything else. The car got 120500 miles on it runs beautiful no shakes no noises the only thing is the darn mpgs that are killing me.

Re: Horrible fuel economy on a 2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo 4.0

What mileage?

check tire pressure, change oil and plugs, inspect air filter.

if all of those check out OK then it is likely a plugged catalytic converter or a bad O2 sensor.
