Info re: WJ 4.7 HO engine

Could someone advise what is the difference between the Knock Sensors and the Detonation Sensor in the HO engine? What do they do or control?

Thanks Trev

Re: Info re: WJ 4.7 HO engine

so the 4.7 ho has both these sensors? Knock and detonation are the same. Knock or detonation is when the air/fuel mixture explodes with spark...but then a secondary explosion happens. It usually occurs when there is unburned fuel present in the chamber.

Re: Info re: WJ 4.7 HO engine

As far as i could find in the WJ service manual there are only 2 knock sensors on the HO engine. I could not find anything regarding detonation sensors.

Re: Info re: WJ 4.7 HO engine

The stereo knock sensors in the 4.7HO pick up the detonation and should retard the timing to combat it.
