Honestly, after me having my Jeep (03 WJ w/ I6), 2 of my buddies having their Jeeps (01 WJ w/ I6 and 04 WJ w/ V8), and my aunt having her Jeep (03 WJ w/ V8): that last thing I would call Jeeps is reliable. None of them are over 140k miles and have had regular issues.
Several blend doors have broke, 2 wheel bearing on my aunt's, something w/ the window motors (they would fall down), my front diff need rebuilt and it only has 84k miles, and transmission issues are what I can think of off the top of my head. But, none of them have had any major engine issues (just water pumps, fan relay, and small stuff).
I had a Mustang with 120k miles and it never needed anything besides regular maintenance. Even something as simple as doing a brake job on a WJ, was just as expensive as my Mustang. But the Mustang was a performance vehicle and this is just a Jeep. One would have though it would be cheaper on the Jeep.
Don't get me wrong, I love my Jeep. The next vehicle I get will be another Jeep. There's just something about it that no matter how many problems there are, I love them. I would always recommend them to people. But I would make sure they know that they usually require something to fix. None of our Jeeps have ever left us stranded anywhere. So they are reliable in that sense.
