jeep 4.7 issues?

Hello everyone this is my first post
so im thinking about getting a jeep GC, preferably the models with the 4.7 HO but i have some concerns about the 4.7 V8. I have heard of several issues like thin cylinder walls, sludge and cracking heads. Is this the same for the HO motor? Are they not reliable engines? Im asking because id rather hear from jeep enthusiasts rather than random reviews on the internet.

Re: jeep 4.7 issues?

Only issue i have heard of is sludge, when the owner severly ignores oil changes. but that will happen tp any car that, that's done too.

I've heard that too years ago on the Dodge forums but like u said u gotta change your oil. Probably stems from guys pushing synthetics 6 to 7k between changes.

Re: jeep 4.7 issues?

I also saw this kind of stories on Dodge forums, but i have never heard about it for jeeps, eventhough its the same engine. Mine has now 135000 Km without problems. I have an issue at the moment of some oil useage, but that has most probably to do with the PCV valve, still waiting for the new valve to arrive. For the rest an exelent and reliable engine.

Honestly, after me having my Jeep (03 WJ w/ I6), 2 of my buddies having their Jeeps (01 WJ w/ I6 and 04 WJ w/ V8), and my aunt having her Jeep (03 WJ w/ V8): that last thing I would call Jeeps is reliable. None of them are over 140k miles and have had regular issues.

Several blend doors have broke, 2 wheel bearing on my aunt's, something w/ the window motors (they would fall down), my front diff need rebuilt and it only has 84k miles, and transmission issues are what I can think of off the top of my head. But, none of them have had any major engine issues (just water pumps, fan relay, and small stuff).

I had a Mustang with 120k miles and it never needed anything besides regular maintenance. Even something as simple as doing a brake job on a WJ, was just as expensive as my Mustang. But the Mustang was a performance vehicle and this is just a Jeep. One would have though it would be cheaper on the Jeep.

Don't get me wrong, I love my Jeep. The next vehicle I get will be another Jeep. There's just something about it that no matter how many problems there are, I love them. I would always recommend them to people. But I would make sure they know that they usually require something to fix. None of our Jeeps have ever left us stranded anywhere. So they are reliable in that sense.
