Looking for exhaust opinions...

Well I’m having trouble deciding on exactly what i want to do with the exhaust on my wj.
It’s got the 3rd main cat with the 4.7ho and im not sure if i should remove it or leave it. Would this help with resonance?

I’m also not too sure what i want for a muffler, originally i was thinking the flowmaster super 10 but after seeing it here (http://jeepgarage.org/showthread.php?t=41112) i think it would be a tad bit too loud for me.

Maybe a 40 series or 44? Im not really a fan of magnaflow mufflers or any of the glass pack sounds. Im really open to suggestions on brands/types.
I don’t want to be going down the highway with a loud drone.

What do you guys think? Leave the cat or chop it and what type of setups are you all running?

Re: Looking for exhaust opinions...

I have the flowmaster super 44 muffler with no cat. I would leave the cat on. Buy a hiflow magnaflow cat. The super 10 muffler has alot of drone. The super 44 has some drone but not to bad.

I have a Magnaflow high flow cat and a flowmaster 10 series with 2 1/2 piping. I love it here is the thread where you can listen to the sound.

I already have you mentioned

It sounds AWESOME. But I'm concerned about the sound inside. How is it on the highway? Can you talk normally inside without any problems?

I also have an 02 4.7L H.O. and I just have a Flowmaster 50 and it sounds pretty good. Loud when you want it to be but has no drone at highway speeds. If you really don't care about too much noise in the cabin the 40 series would be a good bet.

Re: Looking for exhaust opinions...

I've got the biggest Magnaflow I could get...PN#12586. No noise on the highway, completely disappears until you lay on the pedal. Sounds nice and deep on start up too. In my opinion, if Jeep was going to offer a performance exhaust for the HO, it would have been this muffler. I made no other mods to the exhaust...just the muffler and a tip.

Re: Looking for exhaust opinions...

Well i ended up just finishing the install of the new muffler. I went down to napa and just grabbed a piece of pipe, a sleeve and a few clamps.

Out with the old...

In with the new

Overall i think it sounds great. Not crazy loud but you know its there. I get barely any interior drone too. Im very happy with it

Heres a link to a video i made right after i got it all hooked up, ignore all of the steam. Its a little chilly here today and theres water in the exhaust pipe.

For a comparison between this muffler and the stock h.o. exhaust, i also have a video of me seafoaming it that will give you an idea.
