Re: Midnight Run

How much Knock Retard are you picking up? These canned tunes often maintain delays for WOT fueling just like the stock tune does. That + aggressive spark map leads to the sensors picking up knock retard, pulling timing.

Re: Midnight Run

The next time I get that goofy data acquisition to work I'm gonna have to see what it's doing with the timing. To be honest I never checked. I have never heard any ping from it but that system is lightening quick so you'd probably never know it's doing it unless you could watch the data. It's definitely snappier with some good gas even with the 87 tune so hmmmmmm.................

It's probably not so bad on 87, I would expect it to be worse on 91. I haven't tuned any HOs with SCT yet but I can tell you that removing TM and doing some other stuff within the tune unrelated to fuel and spark can make it feel pretty good.

Re: Midnight Run

I did the snip so no more TM. Unbelievable how bad it would fall on it's face between gears. People don't realize the enormous difference that alone makes. It used to feel like you were letting off the gas between shifts and in a roundabout way you actually were.

So you did not feel any difference in shift behavior after adding SC to your snipped WJ?

The throttle doesn't move during shifts (that's a Hemi thing), but rather the PCM cuts timing in between shifts. On louder exhausts with shift-related TM enabled, you can hear it "fart" between shifts. Sounds awful.

I'm perusing through an '04 4.7 HO PCM file, and what's interesting is that from the factory, many of the TM sections are actually turned off/disabled. I know that the snip works, my '02 had the TM snip, best free mod ever.

Definitely the best free mod, even on my 01 non HO. I by no means am experienced enough to know what exactly is going on and whats different with the SC, but my butt dyno tells me its doing something right! I got the SC because I saw sct doesn't have tunes for the WJ, but now I'm kinda intrigued on what you could do Ryan. BTW, I love that new flyin ryan logo in your sig!

SCT DOES tune the WJ, my old 02 was tuned. Even the 4.0 in some cases can be tuned.

I believe whats happening with the snip is that it either raises line pressure or it disrupts tue signal to yank timing. Removing TM in SCT on a "snippable" truck leads to a different end result than cutting the wire.

I would have to say no but I already had the Transgo shift kit and the snip done before the Flashpaq so I'm probably past what it could do anyway.Transgo and the snip are an excellent combo for the 545. She hits nice and hard when you want it to and is pretty transparent when you want to put along. I'd love to raise the shift points a few hundred rpms though.

I've seen what valve body mods etc can do for the 545rfe, it definitely makes a difference.

There is no control over WOT shift points on SC?

Re: Midnight Run

The 91 tune raises them some but the way gas is now. I just don't want to "pay to play" for everyday driving though I really don't run it that much anymore. There's also an advanced tranny tuning package but it doesn't seem to be available for the WJ Ryan, can SCT tune all the Jtech's or is it serial no. dependent? I'm kicking around going in that direction sometime this summer because it seems there is a lot more potential for the 4.7 with them.

Re: Midnight Run

Dave it is PCM# dependent but the way it works is as long as there is a PCM from your year supported (and I'm pretty sure the WJ file i have in my library is a '04 WJ HO), then you're good to go.
In other words I'm 99% sure you are supported.

I don't know if its a significant step ahead of what SC can do but I can eliminate the WOT fueling delays that plague the stock and SC tunes. If more mods are planned then certainly its the way to go.
