so my gas mileage has been aweful and ive tried multiple things to get better gas mileage. i bought my Jeep back in 2009 with a blown headgasket. i replaced the motor with a newer one, put a new muffler and tailpipe on because it was full of anitfreeze or some liquid, but i never changed the catalytic coverter and im thinking maybe its a little clogged..
-since then ive replaced the spark plugs, fram air filter, o2 sensors, diff fluids, and changed my oil every 3 months (i drive maybe 400-500 miles a month) and keep up on checking my air pressure in the tires
-i have just ordered a k&n drop in filter and im going to replace my fuel filter soon too, and get a front end alignment once i replace the tie rods.
-i dont have any codes popping up, and didnt even before i replaced the o2 sensors after the motor swap.
-im sure it doesnt help my mileage that i usually drive less than 5 miles at a time either, but i think it may be time to replace the cat..
-the jeep does feel kinda slugish, but its a jeep lol
-ive looked them up and wow they are expensive!! i only have the 1 cat, but a magnaflow is like $300, unless its on ebay for $100 but im not sure if i want a cat off ebay. what do you think?
-i found a walker brand (part # 16378) cat on Amazon.com for $140 thats a direct fit.
so has anyone replaced their cat? if so what brand did you use? any codes or improved fuel economy?
would anyone recommend the walker brand?
should i replace the cat at all, especially considering all the antifreeze that blew through it?
thanks in advance..
oh my computer says im getting 13 city but im really getting 10-11, and on the highway i maybe get 17-18. normal?
