so my gas mileage has been aweful and ive tried multiple things to get better gas mileage. i bought my Jeep back in 2009 with a blown headgasket. i replaced the motor with a newer one, put a new muffler and tailpipe on because it was full of anitfreeze or some liquid, but i never changed the catalytic coverter and im thinking maybe its a little clogged..

-since then ive replaced the spark plugs, fram air filter, o2 sensors, diff fluids, and changed my oil every 3 months (i drive maybe 400-500 miles a month) and keep up on checking my air pressure in the tires

-i have just ordered a k&n drop in filter and im going to replace my fuel filter soon too, and get a front end alignment once i replace the tie rods.

-i dont have any codes popping up, and didnt even before i replaced the o2 sensors after the motor swap.

-im sure it doesnt help my mileage that i usually drive less than 5 miles at a time either, but i think it may be time to replace the cat..

-the jeep does feel kinda slugish, but its a jeep lol

-ive looked them up and wow they are expensive!! i only have the 1 cat, but a magnaflow is like $300, unless its on ebay for $100 but im not sure if i want a cat off ebay. what do you think?

-i found a walker brand (part # 16378) cat on Amazon.com for $140 thats a direct fit.

so has anyone replaced their cat? if so what brand did you use? any codes or improved fuel economy?
would anyone recommend the walker brand?
should i replace the cat at all, especially considering all the antifreeze that blew through it?

thanks in advance..
oh my computer says im getting 13 city but im really getting 10-11, and on the highway i maybe get 17-18. normal?

18 for an I6? I guess a lot depends on driving habits too... I thought I should be getting around 20, if I drove slower I probably could lol.
If I decide to replace the cat, I'm woundering about the walker brand..
Thanks Dave

Your cat is fine...your Jeep is fine...your MPG numbers are not that bad considering your short trip driving. The fact that your highway numbers are good tells me that your city number is that bad because of your short trips. You probably spend more time idling getting 0 mpg than you do actually getting where you're going on your 5min drive.
But, if you're replacing anyway, I've used some Walker branded parts before with no problems. Random Technologies makes stainless cats...I've had one each in my 4.0L Wrangler and XJ.

Good luck brother...let us know what kind of results you get from the alignment, fuel and air filters.
