2000 cherokee limited is on a distinguished road
oil pressure

Hi everybody I'm new to this site but not new to jeeps as I have a 54 cj3b I'm restoring, but my question is about my 2000 cherokee limited 4.liter 85,000 miles just got in Nov 2011. oil pressure when I start engine pressure is at 50after warm up it might drop to 45 but as soon as I get going pressure goes to 80 and will drop to 60 then back to 80 at idle returns to 45-50 , 1200 rpm it will go to 80 and drop again ,but it never goes below 40 no tapping ,runs strong . I am thinking (hoping) sending unit ? what do think ,I don't want to blow a gasket thanks Steve

Re: oil pressure

Probably just a sender but it wouldn't hurt to dump a can of SeaFoam in your oil and change it in about 500 mi just to make sure things aren't getting gummed up in there. Shine a flashlight in the oil cap and see how things look.

Re: oil pressure

Probably would be best to put a mechanical pressure indicator on it to be sure that it isnīt something more serious then an oil pressure sending unit.
However, the sending unit is probably not that expensive, so you could also try that first and see if it solved the problem.
If it is not the sending unit, i would be more affraid that the pressure could drop too much and cause any bearing damage.

Oh, I could have sworn it was yours but I should've noticed the turned tires as a sign.
