Overheating

The gauges didn't say it was overheating but there was smoke coming out from under the hood not by the radiator but right where all the fuses are located and while driving it would not shift and only go to 2400rpms and then started violently shaking. I just replaced the water pump and the thermostat so Im not sure what could be the cause. Does anybody know what could be making this happen?

Re: Overheating

What kind of smell was coming from the smoke? Was it coolant, electrical burning smell, oil or something else?
Did the check engine light come on?

Re: Overheating

It smelled like a burning clutch and the smell of new brakes being use for the first time but the smoke was coming from underneath the fuse box under the hood but nothing was on fire or melted and no check engine light came on either

Re: Overheating

Seems that the tranny was in limp mode. You first have to find the source of the smoke. The smoke was visible at the power distribution center (the fuse and relay box), but it could easily have come from a lower point. You need to carefully inspect the concerned area for any signs which could give an idea where the smoke was coming from. Did you drive normally after the waterpump/thermostat replacement, or was this the first test?
What you said about the smell of new brakes, could it have anything to do with a sticking brake caliper? Would be strange to see the smoke coming from the PDC area, but with wind you never know.

Re: Overheating

That's the problem with newer vehicles, something as simple as that key issue can throw everything for a loop.
