i almost wonder if the rad cap failed shut?? been wrenching 40 yrs and never saw a rad split off like that did

Same thing I was thinking. Looks like engine over heated and the pressure relief on the radiator cap failed causing the radiator to blow.

Waiting for parts to come in... not really sure what waterpump to buy (quality wise) but i probably wont get at it untill sept

I've changed 3 or 4 water pumps over the years and always used rebuilts. Never had a rebuilt one fail on me. Only problem I did have was with my 87 XJ (4 litre). A major Canadian automotive chain sold me one with the impeller vanes designed for rotating in the opposite direction. It wanted to pump coolant into the cylinder head instead of out. Not good. So my advice, learned the hard way: Make sure the impeller is the same same on whatever pump you get.

I beleive on this model year 2000 the water pumps run in reverse.
