Programmers

I was thinking about buying a programmer and I have zero experience with them. Are they worth it? Which ones are good? I have been told to aviod "chips". I have a 04 4.0L with 78K on it. Are there any downsides to programmers?

Re: Programmers

Superchips are good for basic tunes. I am currently working on a tune with Flyin Ryan for my jeep. No downsides that I know of.

Re: Programmers

So you literally just plug it in and tune it and that's it? Do you have to update it or re-tune it?

Re: Programmers

Superchips has preset tunes that are good and yes you just plug it in, select 87 or 91 octane tune and your ready to go. With superchips you can also custom tune with changing rev limiter, shift points exc....

Re: Programmers

I do SCT tunes. With proper datalogging I can beat a Superchips tune every time in both power and mileage.

SC is a kind of "stock" tunning. RYANs SCT work with datalogs is taylor made to your concrete car conditions. Diferrent part tunning/setup on your car produces diferent/individual data.

True Ryan?

More or less, yes. SC is for stock vehicles. SCT can be used for stock vehicles too, and I can do things within the tune that SC cannot touch.

At this point, I have base files for most everything, but I haven't done a stock 4.0 yet (Although I've done several strokers from mild to wild)
