Re: Side Exit Pipes

Damn communist state of VA inspections No can do.I had a talk with my inspection buddy about different exhaust set ups,he said the only thing we could do was come out the back as you know on a 2004 grand the driver side is packed with fuel, brake lines ,the gas tank does not have that notch in it like the pass.side.. What to do?? Any solutions would be great...

Pretty sure that's what I'm gonna do. And mine is also a 4.0. Sounds sweet now with the CAI and Cherry bomb. Can only imagine the new set up. Was also wondering; would you use a resinator with it?

Re: Side Exit Pipes

Stick with something relatively mild with the 4.0 I6. It sounds like a UPS field truck with most aftermarket exhausts. If you REALLY REALLY want to be bothered with having a loud exhaust, go to something like a Spintech pro street or a Hooker Aerochamber. I have a buddy with a 4.6 stroker motor that had the spintech and it sounded very healthy. The Powersticks don't flow very well.

I have an acquaintance here in FL that had a 4.0 WJ with a side exit and no muffler. I don't remember if he cut out the cat or not. anyhow he said the drone drove him crazy.

Re: Side Exit Pipes

What do you guys think about a Flowmaster 40 series? Been looking around and from what I can tell it seems to have a lot better tone vs just being plain loud.

They sound OK, Flowmasters tend to resonate alot and flow only marginally better than a OEM muffler. A buddy of mine has a Flow 40 on his XJ and it sounds like a UPS truck.

Re: Side Exit Pipes

I have a Flowy 40 series on my niner, I know it's gonna sound different but it doesn't drone at all. I have 2 chambers on my stang with long tube headers and no cats, those drone at 2200 rpm. I love Flowmaster don't care what anyone says!

Re: Side Exit Pipes

Here is a link to my side exit exhaust, which is also my current one. I have had 2 different exhaust and I have videos of both.
