Re: The Heck makes a WJ shutoff while driving?

Last time this happened to me I changed the CPS the CKP and then finally the fuel pump. Due to extenuating circumstances it was the fuel pump. How many miles are on the Jeep? If you're getting no codes then I'd go to the fuel filter next and then the pump.

Re: The Heck makes a WJ shutoff while driving?

The fuel filter also has the fuel pressure regulator in it, only wonder if it would suddenly have a problem when driving. The fuel pump (or fuel pump relay) could be the culprit. If the problem is there, you could listen carefully at the tank when someone switches the ignition in on (don´t try to start) to hear the fuel pump working (you will hear a very low volume buzzing sound, so you can only perform this at a relatively silent place). It will only work for some 3 sec. when you don´t start the engine. Its no guarantee that the pump delivers pressure though. You would have to let the pressure checked at the fuel rail for this.

Re: The Heck makes a WJ shutoff while driving?

It's a pretty easy replacement, the hardest part is actually getting the old sensor out. I just replaced mine a month or two back, ONLY BUY A MOPAR SENSOR!!!! I got mine at a dealer that had it in stock for $50. Crawl under it, remove the starter bolts that hold the starter in place(may need to remove another wire or two, can't recall), move the starter out of the way and place it on the frame rail. The sensor is just above that. There's one bolt holding it in, and if it was anything like the 140k mile stocker on mine, it'll be a bitch to remove; wiggling and twisting it helped, but it still took about 30min to get it out. The new sensor came with an o-ring already installed, so I slightly wet it with some oil, slipped it in, and bolted it back in. It's actually a really simple job, just a bit of a pain to get the old sensor out. You don't need socket, I did mine with a couple twisted craftsman wrenches and a couple adjustable head ratcheting wrenches.

Re: The Heck makes a WJ shutoff while driving?

NOTE: if you unbolt the starter, disconnect the battery FIRST! There is no bettery way to short crap out than a swining, unfused battery lead on the back of the starter

also if your ckp sensor has a slot in the mount hole (that would allow adjustment closer and away from the tone ring on the flexplate) you also need a "green dot" I am pretty sure this is mainly 4.0l's that have this, if you need ill dig up the part number in a tsb or repair procedure (cannot remember exactly where it is). The green dot is just a cardboard sticker that you place on the tip of your sensor that properly spaces it from the tone ring. If your ckp sensor has a single round (not oval) mount hole, dont worry about the green dot.

Re: The Heck makes a WJ shutoff while driving?

Shouldn't have a slot. My 4.7 didn't.

Good call on disconnecting the battery, forgot about that.

Re: The Heck makes a WJ shutoff while driving?

Go buy one from a dealer. They normally have them in stock; the cheapo ones tend to crap out quick.
