Re: Type 2: NV247 Quadra-Trac II Issue

I do have the factory tow package, not sure of the rear end. I swapped out the 247 for a 242 last night! Aside from hearing a bit of noise (nothing bad, can just hear it moving if I listen at slow speeds), all is well. I may rebuild the 247, or swap the input from the 247 into another nonHD-242 that I have and sell it. But, now the 4WD kicks butt! It does feel different in 2 wheel drive now, may be my imagination, but it feels like it pulls stronger not being in full-time...

We shall see! Thanks for the comments.

you should do a write up on the swap. a buddy of mine has a 5.9 and we want to do the swap but dont have the time or money to go at it blind.

You can find lots and lots of info just by searching on google for the ZJ tcase swap.

Re: Type 2: NV247 Quadra-Trac II Issue

Mine just started to bind tonite after putting a front driveshaft a week ago and fluid in the t case 3 days ago... the t case was ran completely dry for at least 1000 miles and no front drive shaft for over 22,000 Miles

I think that you can buy an overhaul kit with bearings etc. Not sure what the progressive coupler will do when it runs dry, but when it starts binding, then there is a good change that the coupler is shot. Maybe better to just get an other from the scrapyard.

Re: Type 2: NV247 Quadra-Trac II Issue

i have a problem

ok here it goes i traded my car straight up to this one guy for his jeep... so its my jeep now

he had it, then sold it to his girlfriends brother then they bought it back, he said he had never used the 4x4 in it.

not knowing anything about jeeps i dont know how each system worked. i saw 4 all time so i wanted to test it, so one night before i picked up my girls i tried to go up this hill. sadly to say i could not make it up the hill (back 2 wheels spun) (side note:the jeep had car tires) so i was like whatever... my mom is gonna watch the girls again tomorrow night... so when i got home that night i found the "how to do" online. i went back down and put it in 4LO. very good amount of torque so i know the 4x4 system works... well a clicking noise started to happen so i paid very little mind to it. so the next night rolls around and this time the wife didnt wanna try going up the hill so i went on a dirt road and tried to spin (i did). then i put it in 4 LO (no spin). with all the torque it seemed like the 4 lo worked...

a couple of days passed by...
...
...

for some reason i wanted to look under the jeep. and found... NO FRONT DRIVE SHAFT... so all that thinking the 4x4 worked that went down the drain. within the next 2 days and $150 later i put the front drive shaft back in and the clicking continued. i... (sorry i took the dog out and the kids were crying)
and forgot what was next... anyways... oh yea i remember i did research and found out about the chain in the t case. so i put the jeep in 4LO then 4 all time then 4LO again about 3 times. then heard the grinding of the teeth catch.. the clicking continue the 4x4 works in 4LO not sure it 4 all time. so i went back to the same hill but this time with bigger tires and i made it (while in 4 all time)

... skip a week

so doing research on the web i heard i might have burnt out something by the front drive shaft not being in so i priced another t case ($350)

so i got a friend from a local jeep club to check out the t case before swapping it out. so we found out the t case was DRY as DRY could be... and the front diff lubricant was low. so we put the t case fluid in and the clicking slowed up more like a click.... click.... click... it was clickclickclick

so then after a little bit of driving the clicking stopped. now there is a weird type of binding sound in the t case when i turn and go forward...when i back up there is no sound

Re: Type 2: NV247 Quadra-Trac II Issue

Probably the progressive coupler inside the T-case is toast. It should transfer torque to the front propeller shaft when a difference between front and rear occurs. If its toast, the 4 all time doesn´t work anymore, but the 4Lo continues to work, because then its a direct coupling without the use of the progressive coupler.
