What spark plugs go into an 02' GC Overland with the 4.7 HO engine

I went to the auto supply store to get new spark plugs and they asked me more details on what engine I had. I do em' it was the 4.7 HO but they needed more detail.

What does everyone recommend?

Whoa, that's a LOT of information on spark plugs. My Overland has 150k miles and I don't drive it hard. I don't know that I'd notice a difference by ...first figuring out - and then using some high end NGK plugs. What did you come away from that discussion with?

I bought the NGKs but I'm just not a Champion fan. Too new to tell yet but it definately seems to idle smoother now.

I replaced mine with the manufacturer suggested ones...as recommended on wjjeeps.com. No problems whatsoever.

I use NGK for all mopars. In my experience they seem to run better.

I run the NGK-Platinum-7100 in my 4.7 and they are great.

Re: What spark plugs go into an 02' GC Overland with the 4.7 HO engine

Interesting. I put in a new set of the stock Champion plugs. Each of the old plugs looked original (157,000 mile Jeep!). The gaps were more than double than the .04 called for. I'm amazed the Jeep even ran. Seriously. But I'm shocked that when I finished up putting the new ones in and drove it around ...it really doesn't feel ANY different. Actually, the idle was a little lopy before, like it was missing a cylinder or something ...and the idle is the same. I hoped for better mileage too but no difference.

Sound like anything to anybody??

What kind of mileage are you getting and what kind of driving do you do?

Re: What spark plugs go into an 02' GC Overland with the 4.7 HO engine

On my first tank with the new plugs I got just under 13mpg but it was mostly "around town" driving. I drive mello - don't hammer the gas pedal - but still it wasn't highway driving.

Re: What spark plugs go into an 02' GC Overland with the 4.7 HO engine

I get about 15 average. A little lower in the winter months due to the winter blend fuels. I use 93 octane, and maintain the crap out of my truck. Mostly city driving...and mildly heavy on the pedal. Plus I've only got 75k on the ticker.

I'd recommend nothing more than to continue with regular tune-up type items and see what you get. Air filter, PCV, check tire pressures, all fluids...
