Re: where to buy new parts?

Replaced the radiator cap a while back.. hose was rock after I replaced it and the temp stayed steady... Now my radiator is leaking on the passenger side seam where it meets the plastic... Awesome, hopefully its here by next weekend. Grrr, I wanted to get a k&n intake. Oh well, maintenance comes first

Re: where to buy new parts?

Seems to be quite common to happen after a while. Mine did the same after 8 years and 170.000 Km of duty. A small crack appeared on the left front upper side in the plastic reservoir, just where it joins with the aluminum core. Keep an eye on it, because with the pressure inside the radiator, a small crack can easily end with a blown radiator.
Which brand radiator did you buy? New hoses and thermostat as well?

Re: where to buy new parts?

I'm gonna go with a spectre like aaron said from rockauto.. I have replaced the thermostat a couple years ago and the hoses look good. Should I replace the hose and thermostat as well? If so, what is the standard temp thermostat on the 4.0 if u know or where I can find that info? Thanks for the help

Re: where to buy new parts?

I also just put a Spectre Premium radiator from Rockauto.com in my WJ last month. Perfect fit, even on my European build WG.
My radiator hoses also seemed to be fine, but for the $8 each i didnīt want to take the risk of some leaks lateron. The hoses can get a very small pinhole leak after many years of use. The old lower hose had a spring inside it, to keep it from colapsing during the cooldown cycle. The new hose didnīt had it, so i just changed it over. If the thermostat was changed some years ago, its maybe not a bad thing to change that as well, since the system is open and empty already. Standard temp is 195° F.

Re: where to buy new parts?

Thanks Frank! I might as well just replace it all while I'm in there, no short cuts. Thanks again!

Re: where to buy new parts?

I think the coolant I use is by Prestone, the kind you can add to any color and such.

Since doing anything to the cooling system requires draining it, I definitely recommend replacing as many parts as you can afford while you have it drained. Radiator, hoses, and thermostat. Rad cap too, just to make sure the spring is holing the right pressure in the system.

Yeah I ordered the radiator today, will get the hoses this week and hope it lasts until next weekend when I have a day off. What's this about a spring in the lower radiator hose? Didn't know that, guess ill find out. Radiator cap is only a month or two old so its good

There is a metal spring in the factory hoses, used to keep the hose from compressing together as the system cools and the coolant contracts. I did not put it in my new hose though and haven't had any problems so I'm not sure if its a big deal or not.
