Which K & N FIPK to go with for an I6?

I know it says The 77-1526KP and 57-1526 was designed for the 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 4.0 liter engine. The 77-1526KP, polished aluminum air intake gains 6.72 horsepower @ 4491 rpm. Testing shows the 57-1526 gets 7.73 more horsepower @ 4711 rpm. Any recommendations from I6 owners?

The 57-1526 goes for $284.99 on the K&N site and the 77-1526KP for $309.99.

57-1526:

Re: Which K & N FIPK to go with for an I6?

Do not get the chrome tube! It heats up ALOT compared to the composite piece!
Do some research and see it you can find just the tube! Also have you thought about just modding you factory piece? Cutting out the bottom and some of the sides can give you more power than you think! Also you could get some ducting to help direct more fresh air to it!

I bought mine from ebay for $35.oo. It's a chrome intakes brand and helped out! Can't really complain about it for the price, even though it has the metal pipe.
Just don't be quick to go out and dump alot of $$ for a name brand part. Research as much as you can. I wish i would have done that one my truck before i dropped all that $ on a K&N.

Plastic fo sho....regardless of engine size. The chrome is nice if you're showing it, but that's about it.

Re: Which K & N FIPK to go with for an I6?

1) Thanks for the advice 04JGC and TJXJWJ, I had actually done a bunch of research on it and a lot of people were asking what was the primary difference between the 2 besides the pricing. I had seen that many people mentioned that with the metal tube it would retain heat more than the plastic one would and therefore heat the air rather than cooling it.

2) On a forum I read a user said "Most guys go with the 57 series for the greater performance, better protection against heat, and cheaper price. That is which one I'd go with. The 57 series is also quieter than the 77 series." (I wonder if the loudness thing is true?)

Re: Which K & N FIPK to go with for an I6?

I had both a plastic and a metal one at one point in my 4.0L TJ. I think the added noise is negligible and really not intrusive at all either way. I don't remember being shocked when switching. The TJ turned out to be more for show than anything else, so that one had a polished tube.

Re: Which K & N FIPK to go with for an I6?

I have the chrome 77 series on mine, will be changing to the plastic fantastic one next year when the engine gets rebuilt, the metal pipe does get hot which isn't good.
