99 WJ Gauge Cluster idea...

While at work the other day, i saw some Summit Brand gauges. they were black, with gray lettering and hash marks, illuminated blue. Then, i got an idea...

My oil pressure gauge is not correct. its showing 5-10 or 40 lbs of oil pressure at idle. whatever it decides to show, it differs everytime. i put a new oil pressure switch in it, and put a new oil pump in it when i rebuilt the engine. so... my idea is...

Could i take the gauges out of my Jeep, take the individual circle gauges out, and replace them with manual, non-electric gauges, such as AutoMeters? I was told by a friend at work who owns a 2004 WJ that the gauges will come out individually, i think otherwise, i think they are all one piece.

any ideas??

Re: 99 WJ Gauge Cluster idea...

The oil pressure and temp gauges are combined together (as are the volts and fuel). See: http://www.wjjeeps.com/gauges/gauges_wh_10.jpg

It would be a very difficult task to try and install aftermarket gauges, maybe impossible being that the rear circuit board could be in the way. I would try replacing the oil/temp gauge set with a used OEM set, fairly easy to change out. If you decide to go that route let me know, I may have one laying around here somewhere that I'd sell cheap.

Re: 99 WJ Gauge Cluster idea...

I figured the circuit board would be in the way. i had thought about possibly trying it with a spare cluster, but im not sure if want to spend the money to buy another cluster, and then it not work and be out $60 for the cluster.

I will keep swapping it out in mind though, Thank you!
