99WJ Bumper fix!?

OK, So...My bumpers on my 99WJ are crap. They where faded and a little scuffed from years of sun etc. I purchased this Forever Black crap and it went on nice and looked OK, made it look like a black limited. Next few days it started to peel off in the rain and now looks horrible.
Any suggestions on something to cover the front and back bumpers like a car bra or something? Maybe a new paint that works like that plastic coat stuff? Any suggestions with pics would help brothers! I do not have a lot of money so, a quick fix that will make it just as durable and look decent would help!

Re: 99WJ Bumper fix!?

pull them off.....wash them with Dawn(regular dawn) like twice, sand the hell out of them and then paint with the Krylon Fusion. Its plastic paint and for outdoors too I think. Its all in the prep. After sanding...wash them down good again and do not touch with your hands. use plastic gloves to move them etc. Paint in a garage or somewhere that is clean and free from wind. let them dry good and then reinstall.

Re: 99WJ Bumper fix!?

Thank you for your help. Is there any other options tho for someone who doesn't have the tools or room to work on the bumpers themselves? I was trying to look for something you slip over them but couldn't find anything useful. Thanks again!

Re: 99WJ Bumper fix!?

Nope! Or you can get the tools and then buy the Limited bumpers to make it look it's best!

Re: 99WJ Bumper fix!?

Ok I found something for the front. Let me know if anyone has experience using one of these from covercraft.

Re: 99WJ Bumper fix!?

thats gonna protect the bumper, but will start to damage the paint. I wouldnt use that on my jeep.

How bad is the bumper anyway? Can you post a pic?

Re: 99WJ Bumper fix!?

I tried everything and the only thing that worked for a little while was taking a heat gun and heating up all the plastic until it turned back to the right color.(very tedious)
I eventually just coughed up the cash and replaced all the plastic.......

Re: 99WJ Bumper fix!?

Just paint them! If you don't want to go thru trouble of taking them off, just tape up the paint real good to protect it from overspray. Painting it with some black Krylon Fusion paint is gonna be your best bet. Cheap too!

Re: 99WJ Bumper fix!?

I think I might go for the Krylon Fusion paint. What you think 2 bottles enough and just mask off the paint and spray away in my garage?
