Re: A couple product questions

hey,

tail light are mostly preferences, can pm him to find out what going on with his lights. if you want to look get them but dont expect them to be a lot brighter, same for led third break light. if you want a brighter tail theirs a way to add another bulb to the stock WJ tail light to be seen better at night.

projects headlight
are a common mod that people do to get hids not to scatter light all over the places which is what happens when you put hids in the stock housing. can get a set on ebay for under $200 shipped or a real set for $500 to $1000.

the gen 1 and 2 that are found on ebay and web sites have poor projectors compared to the gen 3. also the gen 3 are close to stock looking. also can tell if its gen3 by the 3 less by the side amber reflector.

the images you posted are gen 3 headlights. except the 3rd one you posted might not be since the black part has no design (were is it from?). if you look at your photos 1 & 2 are the same but one is black and the other is chrome, the both have the same design on the colored inside part.

the gen 3 come in a few different ways, color black and chroem as you have seen. then there is halo colors. there a bule, white, and CCFL (bright white light). so have to see what teh sell has posted. i mostly see CCFL on the back housings

led's inside the jeep is simple and cahnges the look. i redid my inside for under $25 by shopping on ebay. the only place you need a resister to kill the load inside the jeep is at the EVIC lights. am working on this but its not that bad to notice the dim light. just a load resister can get hot and not that much spaces to keep one around the evic . i was just going to do it in the cargo to get more light and then noticed i could do it cheap so went for it. the only spot is is brighter is in the rear and cargo since i have 9 leds bulbs there. the EVIC, front floor lights, and glovebox are about teh same brightness but not white insted of the white/yellow look.

fogs,
if you want more light can get 9005 bulbs for the stock fogs. but if you want the yellow yellow look go to ebay and look for "9005 3000K bulb".
SIDE NOTE the stock bulbs are 3100k (basic sylvania you find at all stores), the yellow bulbs you want will most likely have a film over it to give the yellow look. people have been saying for years weather yellow or white is better to see in rain and fog and it comes down to what you see better in. but if its for looks do what you want.

if you get HIDs for the fogs only get 35 watts

last, a word of warning.
if you mod your jeep to stick out its is something a cop will notice and they might use little things to get you, so take that as you will.
i know its fun but don't end up looking like a rices that people see a mile away, if your jeep blends in with other car will be less likely to cause a problem.

Re: A couple product questions

straty1987: Thanks for the help

Tail Lights: I have seen the quad tail light mod some WJ users have done, Looks neat, I bet you could get a bright effect if you used a V-LED's 92 SMT in all 4 of the brake spots lol.

Projector Headlights: I know quite a bit about Projector headlights but was just sketchy on the Gen. I-III for the WJ. The first and third projector pictures are the same unit. I've found them on Ebay, They are usually a great deal more expensive than similar style projectors so I thought they might be of higher quality than the second projector picture I posted. Here they are on Ebay:

Chrome or Black: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/99-04...Q5fAccessories

LED's: I might just leave the door lights intact instead of the EVIC, I really don't want to put a load resistor up there.

Fogs: I was going to go with a pair of DDM 35w 3000k, I'm not sure how yellow they are but that's why I was going to put some yellow Lamin-X. As for HID's, I'm a firm believer of Function > Form. I bought a pair of replacement aftermarket Limited headlights from Amazon for like $100 about 6 months ago and they have been great (Before I knew anything about the WJ Projectors). My previous headlights were heavily and I mean heavily oxidized, There was no distinguishable beam pattern. I purchased a DDM 55w 4500k for the low beams and one of the first things I did was to make sure the lights were aimed properly. I never get flashed, But sometimes when it rains due to the refraction of light off of the water. What would be the best white you can get, My DDM 55w 4500k is pretty white, But I've heard some people say a 5000k at 55w is "whiter"

To see the operation of the lights

To see me drive around with HID lights (if you dont have them or wonder what the cut off looks like). The left one needs adjusting, I am aware

Thanks GrantB!, Those look sick man! You just solidified my thoughts about buying them. How do you like them so far and how long have you had them on? Also, nice cutoff of the projectors, I really like those. I appreciate the vid man, When it comes to certain parts, Seller's don't do that great of a job when it comes to showing certain products off lol.

Hey no problem man. Probably a few months - 2-3 maybe?

But some things to note:
In the head light assembly I swapped out my bulbs for LED's - which is why i am facing the HYPER FLASHING (faster than normal) turn signals. If you intend to keep your stop parking light and turn signals no problem there.

When installing the HID kit - make sure you get a relay. Do some searching around on the forum for any questions you might have about installing a relay, as it will help. When I ordered mine from DDM tuning it game with good instructions I was able to print out off line. So far no issues, or complaints about there HID kit (i know we have vendors here and others that sell but I can't speak for them as I have only delt with DDM Tuning).

When installing the projector assembly it is probably best to adjust it the same day you installed it. I drove around for 3 days blinding this shit out of people in front of me because the right was aimed to high (pointed directly into the person in front of me rear view mirror) and can casue un-necessary attention (READ: COPS). Also, on the headlight assembly you will have some LED's and HALO wires. Due to how I wanted them to run I connected all the positives and negatives to a single wire and then connected them to the ground wire, and then the PARKING LIGHT wire for electricity. With this configuration the HALO and LED lights will always be on when the parking lights are on (that's how i want mine). Some folks make mistakes, or would prefer them to run with the turn signals, it is really up to you.

The Tail lights were a snap. Now one thing to note about the particular assembly I purchased was that the connectors are similar to factory in the sense that they ARE PLUG AND PLAY - but the red slide thing that locks the connections together wouldn't seem to work on either of mine (no biggie). Also, in the taillight assembly that I am using they replaced the WEDGE type bulbs with a CIRCULAR bulb.... I had bought LEDS to install in the rear turn signal and reverse lights but since they are no longer WEDGE lights and circle shaped bulbs I can't do that (you can buy LED bulbs that for that, it is just that i bought the LED lights before i had the tail light - durrr).

The 3rd brake light was a no-brainer - plug and play- much brighter/nicer than factory. Only thing to note there is that I saw minor condensation in the light i have the other day. Looking at the back of the light there is a LARGE HOLE that the wire comes out - Thinking about sealing that bad boy up to hopefully keep that from happening again. So if you do get one - might want to take the time before installing to use some clear silicone or something eimilar to make sure it is airtight (as possible).

Still pending is the FOG Lights which are a HID PROJECTORS (another HID kit and bulbs) and the HALO's on the fogs will probably be tapped into the same wire (parking light) that I am using for the HALO's mentioned above. So If i turn the parking lights on, I get the turn signal, the center light, the HALO's on the headlight and the HAlos on the fog lights.

Might consider wiring the LED and both HALO's to a switch in the future with electricity straight form the battery with a fuse in line (my concern there is the current draw of electricity one the existing parking brake circuit). I havn't seen any issues with doing it the way I am, but I just think in the long term I will probably end up wiring it to a switch, to control all the stuff (so if you are planning long term, you too might want to do something similar). It's up to you boss, its your jeep!

Re: A couple product questions

I appreciate the help GrantB, Concerning the HID kit I purchased from DDM, When I initially ordered it, I purchased a relay with it as well. It's been working flawlessly. I've had a couple problems with a ballast on the driver side which must have been pretty bad, Because I went through 2 capsules in 1 day lol (Luckily I had ordered 4 x 4500k Bulbs, 4x 55w Ballasts, and 2 x Relays, I had planned to do the fogs too but that got put on hold lol).

I'm curious if these will work for the turn signal and reverse, Since you said they changed the connector type:

or there newer style

I'm not a very big fan of the projector fogs since I've heard they have a bad projector optic on them and I don't see why someone would want a projector on the fog anyways since they're intended to make a wide bar of light and not be like another pair of headlights lol. Also, Did you mention why your 3rd Brake Light flashes while the turn signals are activated?

Re: A couple product questions

Reichminister Goebbels you sir have a keen eye.

I didnt notice that until now (last night).

I am not entirely sure why (and notice the whole bar doesn't flash, just 2 or 3 lights).

I am going ton install this replacement relay soon (this is an option as opposed to installing multiple resistors on each LED wire to solve odd issues after installing LED lights/turn signals. So hopefully it will go away after replacing the relay.

Or else I will start putting stock bulbs back, removing halo's, LED's and what not until I figure out what is causing it.

Although I don't mind it myself - but sometimes being curious gets the best of me

Hey GrantB, What kind of LED's did you order for the turn and reverse lights with the new LED tail lights? I'm curious what the connectors look like since you said there not a wedge type.

Re: A couple product questions

They look like this (but not LED yet) just found this pic that has the correct connector, even the little tabs on the side...

Havn't found some LED replacment yets (just found this doing google image search). - It is just that particular company decision rather than using wedge socket they used this other type (not sure what to call it). I am sure with the appropriate info you can find a reverse and turn signal LED. I found this doing a search for "3157 bulb circle". Once i find some LED's that fit i can certainly update you. I bought some 92 SMT tower LED - both white and amber to put in tails, but they are wedge and now no longer fit -

Re: A couple product questions

Since they changed the connectors, it kind of turns me off from this tail light. Hopefully you can find a good pair of LED's that are circle connector.

Update: I found some great ones GrantB, Since you said that LED tail light is different, it is now the older #1157 compared to the newer #3157 like the stock WJ. I think these look great

Their Older Style, Output: 150/21 Lm

Their Newer Style, Output:360/60 lm
