AC/HVAC light(s)

Hi All,

01 WJ 60th Anniv. edition and the light behind the AC button is out. AC and control still work fine. Can someone point me in the right direction as far as how to replace the bulb and what bulb to by.

I believe it's a 3mm LED but not sure and I'm ok with taking the HVAC control out from under the radio, just not super experienced with wiring/soddering.

Re: AC/HVAC light(s)

search for threads by timmyb
he wrote up how to replace the bulbs with led, they arent led from the factory.
he also shows the direct replacements that are not LED. can be had at radio shack.

Thanks a bunch....searching now. I also found a pic at Wjjeeps.com, however, there isn't anything about the ones behind the buttons..

Re: AC/HVAC light(s)

Thanks for the reply. So here is what I ended up doing. Went to Radio Shack. They did not have anything that was 12V in the size needed. They did however have 3mm LED's that were ~3v's. I used two red ones and put them behind the buttons for AC and Recirc. I definitely need some soldering lessons....

The guy at the store said I would have to use a resistor. Does the HVAC control board have resistors built in AND/OR am I running any risks by having them in there without one....(I'm not sure where I would put one since it won't fit behind the button.)

Thanks again for the help.

Re: AC/HVAC light(s)

i am looking to change the color bulbs as well, and one of mine flickers every once in a while, so from what i have gathered, they are 3mm bulbs, and you can either replace the bulbs with the same type, or go with 3mm leds (i would recommend) and install resistors?

In my previous car, they were mostly surface mount leds, and i replaced all of them with white, just heated up the old bulb, and put the new one on.

As far as the resistors go, is there enough room to install them under the bulbs, and still be able to put the HVAC back together?

That was my problem, especially under the AC and RECIRC buttons. I installed without the resistors......don't know if that is ok or not.

Just found these: http://www.weisd.com/store2/LINB4302F1-12V.php

Re: AC/HVAC light(s)

i am no electrical expert but I dont think it will work, and if iot works i dont think it will alst as the resistor makes sure the bulb gets the proper amount of juice without it who knows.

have you plugged it in????

Plugged it in and appears to work fine...of course it has only been a day. So if there isn't room for a resistor, use a 12v 3mm LED instead?

Re: AC/HVAC light(s)

again i say no expert here only know what others have done.

timmyb bought leds on ebay they came with the resistors. so in the 3mm package he shows are bulbs and resistirs. hamze is another user here and he ALSO used resisitors.

but bro......i have no clue about the details except wht they posted.

Re: AC/HVAC light(s)

Well, I'm thinking that these should produce much less heat and at worst, burn out prematurely. I guess I'll just wait and see...... I don't think a major electrical melt down could occur just from not using the resistor. I too am no expert so any expert advice would be most appreciated...
